    Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the U.S and melanoma is the deadliest form.  According to the Melanoma Research Foundation, melanoma incidence in people under 30 has surged, increasing by 50% in women in particular since 1980. The increasing prevalence of melanoma is alarming, but with better diagnostics there is hope that these people can get faster treatment and face much better outcomes. Our solution, Dermalyser, is designed to revolutionise the diagnosis of melanoma.     Did you know, skin cancer is the most common cancer worldwide?  It accounts for nearly half of all cancer cases and it is estimated that more than half of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop some form of skin cancer. Each year, 125,000 people globally die from skin cancer, which equates to one person every four minutes.  Advanced diagnostic tools, such as our AI-powered technology Dermalyser, are important in the fight against skin cancer. These tools enable healthcare practitioners to make faster, more accurate diagnoses, leading to early detection and better patient outcomes.     Our AI-powered skin cancer diagnostic solution, Dermalyser, has been clinically validated in an independent clinical study run across 37 primary care facilities in Sweden. The study assessed Dermalyser's diagnostic precision in identifying melanomas among suspicious cutaneous lesions, comparing its results with final diagnoses from histopathology and dermatologist assessments. It also evaluated Dermalyser's usability in clinical practice and aimed to understand how AI tools can support earlier melanoma diagnosis, with users rating the device through a System Usability Scale. The results 📊 Dermalyser achieved an AUC of 0.96 which significantly outperforms expert dermatologists and general practitioners. And, after threshold calibration, our tool demonstrated an impressive 95% sensitivity and 85.5% specificity.     We're raising awareness about melanoma ☀️ Melanoma skin cancer is responsible for 60,000 deaths each year, with this number expected to increase to 100,000 by 2040. It is more common in light-skinned individuals due to higher levels of pheomelanin, which does not protect against sun damage. Dark-skinned individuals, with more eumelanin, are better protected but are not immune to the disease. Melanoma often develops in a mole or appears as a new dark spot on the skin. DNA damage from UV radiation causes mutations in melanocytes, leading to uncontrolled cellular growth. It can arise nearly anywhere on the body, but it frequently appears on the torso in men, the legs in women, and the upper back in both. Melanoma is usually curable when detected early. However, once it spreads deeper into the skin or other parts of the body, it becomes more challenging to treat and can be deadly. To save lives, it is crucial that we invest in new easy-to-use easy and accurate diagnostic tools, like Dermalyser, which help identify any worrying signs of skin cancer before it’s too late.     It's great to read about an exciting new approach to melanoma treatment developed by an international research team at the University of Technology Sydney.    Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/gQsfdTmh   Their innovative method involves using tyrosine, a common amino acid, as a nanomedicine to alter the metabolism of melanoma, preventing it from spreading. So far, this approach has shown promising results in lab tests on mice and human-derived melanoma cells.   Kudos to the research team for their pioneering work! Let's hope this leads to more effective and accessible cancer treatments in the near future.
