🌿 ICYMI: Webinar on Biodiversity Action 🌿 We had an insightful and engaging webinar on May 29, 2024, where we explored how businesses can take the lead in biodiversity action. Hosted in collaboration with Klarna, Milkywire, and the award-winning organization Acción Andina, the session delved into the pivotal role businesses can play in supporting biodiversity and the tangible benefits that come from these actions. Key Highlights: Salah Said shared invaluable lessons from Klarna’s three-year journey in biodiversity initiatives. Their proactive approach, despite being a low emitter, underscores the importance of corporate responsibility in driving environmental sustainability. Florent Kaiser from Acción Andina emphasized the critical need for biodiversity funding and the broader social and environmental impacts of such efforts, beyond just reforestation. New blog post! In our latest blog post, Milkywire's Senior Environmental Lead Natalya Yakusheva Jarlebring shares her reflections on how voluntary positive action to protect and restore forests complements the EU's New Deforestation Rules. Natalya states: “Through our Forest and Landscapes Fund companies can support a curated portfolio of projects aiming to halt deforestation and restore forest ecosystems in some of the most biodiverse areas of the world. The portfolio of projects include a wide range of projects, ranging from UN Flagship Programme and Earthshot Prize winning Acción Andina to supporting Human Rights Watch advocacy work to investigate, expose and push for stricter regulation and stronger enforcement of legislation.” Luciana T. researcher on Forests, Human Rights and Climate at Human Rights Watch, adds "Milkywire’s support has enabled Human Rights Watch to effectively advocate for the EU Deforestation-Free Products Regulation to be adopted, and to produce factual human rights research that supports implementation. Our investigations focus on high-risk jurisdictions, targeting the roots of environmental destruction and rights abuses. With continued support, we aim to further influence legislation globally". https://lnkd.in/e6atm4uY

Big news! After an extraordinarily competitive selection process, Milkywire has chosen thirteen new carbon dioxide removal suppliers we intend to support through the Climate Transformation Fund. This year, we reviewed over 220 CDR proposals through our open call, and have chosen suppliers who are pushing the limits of current technology. CDR is crucial, but it's still in the early stages. For CDR this decade is all about figuring out which technologies are the most effective, affordable, and scalable and laying the foundation for an industry that can scale massively in the years to come. Congratulations to: Aquarry, Flux, Mati Carbon, Vycarb, Alkali Earth. Gaia Refinery, Yama (formerly Maia) Ucaneo, Carbon Atlantis, Holocene Solidaridad Network/Planboo, BIOSORRA, PyroCCS - Biochar CDR Solution. These new partnerships include ventures in new geochemical solutions such as Aquarry’s method of using mine pit lakes, novel direct air capture methods as Gaia Refineries mix of biomass removal and DAC, and very scalable biochar technologies increasing the incomes of vulnerable farmers such as in Planboo and Solidaridads project. We are excited to be the first significant buyer for many of these companies. Read about all selected suppliers here: https://lnkd.in/g5Ck4nMA Basically all of these startups need more support than we currently can give them to properly try out their solutions at a relevant scale. We need you to pitch in as well. Get in touch, and we will let you know how your company can support the CDR startups in the fund with a pre-purchase or donation. The Climate Transformation Fund aims to support all types of solutions needed for global net zero, including emission reduction, and nature restoration & protection projects. For these categories our 2024 selection is still ongoing. Klarna, the founding donor to the fund, just announced that they are raising their fee to $200 per tonne in Scope 1 and 2, while contributing $100 for emissions from business travel and $10 per tonne for the rest of Scope 3. In 2024 they will contribute over $2 million, making their total contribution to projects in the fund $7 million since 2021. The fund is also supported by companies like Spotify, BioGaia AB, Atomico and Mentimeter and has supported 30 projects worldwide since 2021. By the end of this year, we expect to have paid out more than $13 million to over 45 climate projects in total. https://lnkd.in/g5Ck4nMA
