Potatoes have been cultivated in the Nordic countries since the 18th century. NordGen's recently published research, through genetic analysis, has revealed new details about the relationships between different potato varieties. We have been able to identify and verify a large number of landraces and improved varieties, giving us a more comprehensive picture of the genetic heritage of the Nordic potato. These results are important for better understanding and preserving the #geneticdiversity of #potatoes.

Pamela Conrad will be joining us as a speaker at our upcoming conference! Pamela Conrad, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP, is an internationally recognized landscape architect, Faculty at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and Architecture 2030 Senior Fellow. Her passion for the environment is deeply rooted – from growing up on a farm in the mid-western United States to studying plant science and regenerative landscape architecture. Pamela’s 20-year career has focused on implementing carbon sequestering nature-based solutions in the built environment ranging from large scale habitat restoration to urban waterfront adaptation. She has been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, Bloomberg, TIME Magazine for Kids, Build Beyond Zero (2022), and on stage at the UN COP27/28 Climate Conferences. Pamela is participating online. The emerging program for the Nordic Nature-based Solutions Conference is taking shape! An exciting mix of speakers from across the Nordic countries. Looking forwards to it. "Nature-based solutions are considered a key part of the work on the climate and environment while simultaneously providing human well-being, ecosystem services and resilience and biodiversity benefits." But how are we designing and implementing nature-based solutions? What are the challenges and enablers? Is justice being integrated into decision-making on nature-based solutions? And how is financing being unlocked? What's happening in #Leipzig this week? Probably many interesting events, but one of the most important ones is surely the #EUCARPIA General Congress. The congress, themed "Global Challenges for #Crop Improvement" is gathering #plant breeders and #scientists from 40 countries and six continents discussing how to feed the world in a more #sustainable way in the future. NordGen is of course there, and our Executive Director Lise Lykke Steffensen is moderating the session on genetic resources. The congress is scheduled for the entire week and we look forward to many more interesting lectures and conversations. Thank you for an amazing congress thus far!
