This year, we’ve had the pleasure of having Márton Kovács Kovacs from KTH Royal Institute of Technology write his Master’s Thesis with us. He’s a production engineering major with a strong interest in data science. Here, he briefly explains what data cleaning is and why it’s an important step in data analytics. 👇 So Marton… What is data cleaning? In industry, it’s common to use prediction models to make high-level assessments based on low-level information. So, for example, this would mean estimating the condition of a machining operation based on low-level data such as sensor inputs. When setting up these models, a key step is data preparation and one of the steps of data preparation is data cleaning. And why is data cleaning important for data analysis? Using data cleaning can improve the performance of these estimation models, so you can get more reliable estimations if you have a good data cleaning before you train the model. 💡 Do you want to discuss how your manufacturing business can become more data-driven? Manufacturers, do you REALLY know the productivity level of your machines? One of the companies we've worked with perceived that its productivity was at 80-85%, but in reality, it was at 30-35%... We found this out by setting up an AI vision system simply using the camera on a smartphone. With the company getting a real picture of its machines' productivity, it could make the necessary adjustments backed by data. As a result, the productivity level increased to 60-65%. How we helped a manufacturing company find bottlenecks in their processes and improve productivity by 20%. 💡 One of the companies we've worked with noticed that one of the robots in their AGV system kept stopping at different locations where it was not supposed to. To address and remove this bottleneck, shop floor staff needed to find where the robot was making these stops. Using just the camera of a smartphone, we installed an AI-powered vision system by setting up a phone at each station the AGVs were making planned stops. The vision system measured the time the AGVs entered and exited the frame. So, if an AGV did not pass a station at a certain timestamp, we would know there is a bottleneck involved there. Simple as that! ✅ #AI-powered vision systems are a game-changer in the #manufacturing industry. We know this because we’ve installed these types of systems and we've seen the results ourselves. Inte nog med att vi fått spendera tid med våra kollegor i Indien, utan vi har även varit ute och träffat en del lokala företag. 🤝 I sin fabrik i Coimbatore tillverkar Shivalaya högkvalitativa precisionskomponenter som levereras till och används av andra tillverkare inom, bland annat, fordons- och textilindustrin. Vi var på besök i fabriken och träffade ägaren Kathirvel. Nu kan vi glatt dela med oss av nyheten att vi kommer att installera sensorer för insamling av maskindata här. För Shivalaya är syftet att öka digitaliseringen och förbättra sin produktivitet. Nyckeln till många möjligheter inom tillverkningsindustrin är just data. Att börja samla in data för analys är därför ett stort första steg mot att förbättra verksamheten på Shivalaya. 📈
