We're thrilled to see our motion capture system contributing to groundbreaking research! A joint study by Dr. Abdulghani Mohamed and his team at RMIT and the University of Bristol has revealed secrets to the remarkably steady flight of kestrels, which could inform future drone design and flight control strategies. A new joint study by RMIT and the University of Bristol has revealed the secrets to the remarkably steady flight of kestrels and could inform future drone designs and flight control strategies. Making drones safer and more stable in turbulent conditions, or in cities where wind gusts from tall buildings make flying more difficult, makes applications like parcel delivery, food delivery and environmental monitoring more feasible, more often. “Typically, aircraft use flap movements for stabilisation to achieve stability during flight,” said RMIT joint last author Dr Abdulghani Mohamed. “Our results acquired over several years, show birds of prey rely more on changes in surface area, which is crucial as it may be a more efficient way of achieving stable flight in fixed wing aircraft too.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eYt-46Qr RMIT STEM College | Shane Windsor | Martin Scuffins | Mario Martínez Groves-Raines | RMIT Europe | George Yi | Matthew Penn | Simon Watkins

#SIGGRAPH2024 did not disappoint! We were impressed to see the attendance that made their way to the Mile High City. At the Qualisys booth, attendees experienced daily demonstrations as we revealed the depth, yet simplicity of streaming live subjects from QTM to #Metahuman. Our presenters Jeffrey Thingvold and Jean-Marc FUERI proved that you can, in fact, #MocapinMinutes! ⏱ It was a pleasure to share our ACM SIGGRAPH experience with our partners from StretchSense, who highlighted their integration benefits and offered #handsOn demos and technical insights. Thank you to all who stopped by! - The Qualisys/StretchSense Team: Jeffrey, Jean-Marc, Jacob Van Ryzin, Stephanie Knustrom, Ander Bergstrom, Chris Mudd, & our fantastic #mocap actors Robert (Bob) Gardner & Michael DeCamp 👏 🤘
