Erik Gatenholm is a dynamic American entrepreneur who is leveraging his passion for sales, marketing, and life-sciences to create the future of medicine. Gatenholm has close to 15 years executive and leadership experience in the life sciences industry, ranging from commercialization and marketing, raising capital, IPO, M&A, growing sales from an early-stage idea to $200+ million global sales, managing a team of 1,000+ highly skilled team members, and much more.

Gatenholm is the Co-Founder and was the CEO of BICO until 2023 – the world’s leading bio convergence company with it’s aim to reduce the organ and tissue shortage and speed up drug development; enabling better treatments for everyone – where he and his team created the first universal bioink in 2016. Today, BICO designs state-of-the-art life science technologies to support world-renowned research institutions with more than 45,000 instruments in the field, in over 3,500 labs across more than 65 countries. BICO’s current customers include esteemed organizations such as Harvard, MIT, Johnson & Johnson, Merck and the FDA.

Over the years, Gatenholm has been recognized worldwide for his work as a technology entrepreneur and for the rising success of BICO. His tireless spirit quickly distinguished BICO in the field and led him to become the face of the 3D-bioprinting industry. Honoring his groundbreaking success, prodigious talent and innovative ambitions, Forbes selected Gatenholm among hundreds of thousands of nominees to join the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 class of 2018. In addition to this, Gatenholm has been awarded numerous awards such as MIT Review 35 Under 35, Innovator of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 and many more.
