Description

Both the leaves and the flowers of Hellebore ‘Silver Dollar’ offer plenty of interest to the garden. Bursting into bloom in late winter with generous clusters of large, rounded flowers in a zingy shade of green, flushed with a rosy-pink tinge on the outer petals, while the anthers in the centre provide a bright spark of lemon yellow. Raised above a neat mound of silver-green serrated foliage on purple stems, the entire plant is fantastic colour hit with a pretty frosted appearance. For the rest of the year, the evergreen leaves provide a contrasting silver tone to planting schemes. Ideal for a woodland area, this much-loved hellebore variety looks idyllic planted under the dappled shade of trees and shrubs, but it’s just as happy in a sunny border and compact enough for patio containers too. Early-emerging bumblebees love the nectar-rich blooms. Height: 35cm (14"). Spread: 35cm (14").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up hellebore plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. When plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant hellebores in neutral or alkaline soil, in dappled shade. Hellebores prefer a moist, humus rich, fertile soil that does not dry out in summer or sit waterlogged in winter. When growing hellebores on heavy clay or free draining gravel soils, add plenty of well rotted leaf mould or other organic matter to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Water regularly until established. Mulch hellebores with well rotted manure or garden compost each spring. Hellebores resent disturbance after planting and may take some time to re-establish. However when clumps become overcrowded, lifting and dividing of hellebores should be undertaken immediately after flowering. Caution: Hellebore sap may irritate the skin and eyes. All parts are harmful if eaten.
