The former home of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love quietly went on the market earlier this month for a listing price of $7.5 million.
Built in 1902, the four-bedroom, 8,000-square-foot home in the posh lakefront Denny-Blaine neighborhood has a coastal take on the Queen Anne style, with shake commingling with ornate millwork and windows. It sits on more than three-quarters of an acre just a block from Lake Washington. According to the City of Seattle’s survey of historic resources from the late 2000s, it was remodeled in the 1940s and 1950s.
Cobain and Love purchased the mansion in early 1994 for $1.49 million (about $2.6 million in today’s dollars), King County property records show, and Love sold the home to a trust in 1997 for $2.9 million. It’s unclear what changes have been made since that time.
The listing agent with real estate firm Ewing and Clark declined to comment and hasn’t released interior photos publicly, but the city’s historical notes say that it appears to have been remodeled to get closer to its original turn-of-the-century aesthetic. County records show a detached garage was added in 2000 and there’s a decade-old city permit for a new boiler, but the rest is a mystery—unless you have several million dollars handy.
