Thank you, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Alvin Tan, for launching the Applied Materials - A*STAR Joint Lab for Applied Process Equipment Accelerator (APEX). This partnership will drive innovative, cost-effective solutions for the semiconductor industry, supporting the growth of Singapore’s local chip ecosystem. The joint lab will focus on: - Developing semiconductor manufacturing processes that minimise material waste and maximise resource efficiency; - Developing components and methods to enhance the quality and functionality of semiconductor equipment targeted for ICAPS markets (IoT, Communications, Automotive, Power and Sensors); and - Creating computer models to test, simulate and optimise new processes and designs. By sharing expertise and knowledge with our SMEs, we aim to uplift their capabilities and move up the value chain. #ASTARforIndustry #CreatingGrowth
🇸🇬 Minister of State for Trade & Industry, Culture, Community & Youth, Board Member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC
🎊 We just launched the Applied Materials - A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research Joint Lab for Applied Process Equipment Accelerator. This partnership will help make our semiconductor equipment manufacturing more innovative, build our ecosystem and position Singapore as a key node in the global semiconductor supply chain. 🔑 Key to this is 2 of A*STAR’s platforms here at CleanTech Park: ⚙️ Our Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) bridges tech gaps, helping companies adopt advanced manufacturing. These include areas such as biotech, robotics, aerospace, and EV battery testing. ⭐️ A*STAR’s other jewel, the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) houses top global companies like Applied Materials and SIA, and offers SMEs access to new collabs, tech, design and engineering expertise. For example, local company Hwee Jan Pte Ltd started out installing aircon for vehicles and now provides refrigeration units for trucks and special-purpose vehicles. It is now working with SIMTech to onboard a slim battery unit to power refrigerators on trucks instead of using internal combustion engines. 🚛 🍴 Another SME, Crunch Cutlery has created edible cutlery that they can produce on site! This can reduce the use of disposable cutlery.🍴 ✈️ Another is between Singapore Airlines, SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), SIMTech and APPLIED TOTAL CONTROL TREATMENT PTE LTD (ATC). ATC recycles and upcycles worn parts of passenger seats for Singapore Airlines, saving costs and materials. 🛩️ Through funding and partnership, our agencies work with SMEs like Hwee Jan, Crunch Cutlery and ATC, to help them design and manufacture solutions to improve their efficiency and reduce costs. 🙌🏻 Thank you to A*STAR, Applied Materials and many more partners for strengthening Singapore’s manufacturing ecosystem!
