About us
Within the oil and gas industry, everyone knows the potential cost of a dropped object. It’s not just about equipment damage and lost production. It’s about life! The problem is common to everyone in the industry, across all regions, sectors and disciplines. DROPS is an industry-wide initiative focused on preventing dropped objects, with the ultimate goal of delivering a second nature dropped objects prevention strategy across our industry. DROPS is essentially a Global Work Group, represented by 200 operators, contractors, service companies and industry bodies, all sharing commitment and enthusiasm for the common goal of dropped object prevention.

When assessing DROPS hazards in your workplace, use the hierarchy of controls to explore methods of prevention. Tools at height are an excellent example of engineered controls, but what if we could design the job in such a way to eliminate the use of tools. Consider the frequency we lift, can we manage with less? Do we have to erect scaffolding each time, or can we use other methods of working at height?

One week to go before the next monthly #DROPS Wells Forum. Join us for a presentation on Drops Assurance plans, a specialized process designed to minimize risks in Wells space before a rig or operation commences, during ongoing works, and after high-risk activities are conducted. This session will cover essential topics including Well Assurance, third-party drops inspections, Line of Defense Assurance, and HIPO (High Potential Incident) audits. Presented by Troy Nowlan and Colin Habarow of Shell Australia. Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A and the opportunity to connect with other industry professionals. This event is for representatives of energy majors, drilling contractors and major service partners. Please register using your work email.

Congrats to Axess Middle East for winning the IADC Southern Arabian Peninsula Chapter award with their dropped object prevention solutions including e-drops and the DROPS Metaverse Training
We are happy to share that Axess Middle East has received the “Highly Commendable Non-Drilling Contractor Initiative (>250 employees globally)” award at IADC Southern Arabian Peninsula Chapter's Annual Safety Awards 2023. The recognised safety initiative, integrating our DROPS training programme, development of hazard hunt module for DROPS Asia’s DROPS metaverse, and proprietary eDROPS software, was developed to address the issue of human error. According to the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers, this error is responsible for 60% of DROPS incidents in the Oil and Gas industry, which can significantly affect safety and the environment. As an experienced provider of dropped object management services, our focus on mitigating the risks of dropped objects has helped to improve #workplacesafety in the industry.
