On August 27, we were privileged to welcome Minister for Manpower Dr. Tan See Leng and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng to e2i, Employment & Employability Institute. Minister Tan introduced the new SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme, aimed at aiding Singaporeans who are involuntarily unemployed. This initiative is a significant step in supporting those facing job loss and career transitions. After our Career Coaching Series workshop, which saw around 80 enthusiastic participants, Minister Tan and Sec-Gen Ng also had a chance to visit our e2i Career Centre at the Devan Nair Institute. They engaged with our career coaches and explored our digital kiosk featuring e2i career resources. Mr Ng shared that the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme is a good first step in providing support for involuntarily unemployed workers. It reflects National Trades Union Congress (NTUC)’s decade-longstanding advocacy for unemployment support for workers affected by retrenchments and those navigating career transitions, particularly in an evolving job market. This financial aid aims to ease financial pressures, allowing job seekers to focus on their job search and skills improvement. The scheme will officially start in April 2025, with more information to be released closer to date.
