The Home Team Academy (HTA) enriches Home Team (HT) Training and Learning by bringing in rich external perspectives, innovative ideas and valuable networks through our annual HTA Advisory Panel (AP) meetings. Chaired by Mr Pang Kin Keong, Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs), HTA’s AP comprises local and international, professional and academic distinguished members. Held on 28 August 2024, the discussions that took place at HTA’s fourth AP meeting showcased the positive impact of diverse insights. We discussed challenges in safety and security training, explored refining the HT’s approach to leadership development, and cutting-edge simulation and immersive technologies to enhance learning experiences. As One Home Team, the Home Team Departments (HTDs) have the benefit of accessing and learning from each department’s best practices and capabilities through joint exercises and educational sessions. Through these exchanges, the HTDs have the opportunity to pick up knowledge, expand their understanding of various subjects, and ultimately apply key takeaways to enhance their training and operations on the ground. On 12 July 2024, over 30 participants from the various HTDs attended the third Home Team Training Simulation Community of Practice (CoP) session held at Singapore Civil Defence Force 's (SCDF) Civil Defence Academy’s (CDA) Emergency Responders’ Fitness Conditioning and Enhancement Lab (EXCEL) facility. The CoP was organised by the Home Team Academy 's (HTA) Centre for Home Team Simulation (CHTS) and the SCDF’s CDA, which serves as a platform for HTDs to exchange and share innovative approaches to enhancing training and learning delivery through cutting-edge simulation technology. One of the highlights during the session was a presentation on SCDF’s Strength, Conditioning & Rehabilitation in Virtual Environment (STRiVE), a revolutionary system that features a 360-degree interactive virtual environment designed for the comprehensive assessment of human factors, ergonomics, and conditioning in both operational and unconventional terrains, such as the simulation of rough waters during motion acclimatisation training for responders in marine units.
