Coordinating and communicating with diverse stakeholders – such as developers, consultants, and contractors – can be particularly challenging in the Built Environment sector. To overcome these challenges and enhance overall efficiency, it is crucial for SMEs to advance their digital capabilities. The Built Environment Industry Digital Plan (IDP), refreshed from the Construction and Facilities Management IDP, was launched by Minister for National Development, Mr Desmond Lee, at the International Built Environment Week 2024. It was developed in collaboration with the Building and Construction Authority, and in consultation with 400 industry experts. This update focuses on further advancing Integrated Digital Delivery for the industry across three Key Transformation Areas: Integrated Planning and Design, Advanced Manufacturing and Assembly, and Sustainable Urban Systems. The refreshed IDP offers a step-by-step guide to digital transformation, focusing on digitalisation, cybersecurity, data protection, and digital skills training, with the aim to help SMEs overcome challenges, minimise stop work orders, raise safety standards and reduce cost. At the SCS Tech³Forum 2024, Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, delivered a speech on upskilling Singaporeans for AI. IMDA remains at the forefront of Singapore’s digital upskilling efforts, working closely with industry partners and associations to refresh the Skills Framework for Infocomm Technology for the inclusion of new GenAI skills. This refresh will enable the workforce to pick up new skills quickly and maximise the full potential of what GenAI has to offer. We are also collaborating with SkillsFuture SG, Singapore Computer Society (SCS) and the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore to increase the pool of qualified industry Adult Educators to teach tech courses mapped to the Skills Framework (SFw) for ICT through the Accelerated Industry-centric Training Pathway (AITP). With AITP, the training duration is streamlined to 40 hours, enabling more industry practitioners to become certified industry trainers to teach tech courses. Our collaborations are also fuelling sector transformation across the economy as we expand digital upskilling to non-tech sectors like media, marketing and advertising. New MOUs between SCS and the Association of Advertising & Marketing Singapore (AAMS) and between SCS and the Singapore Association of Motion Picture Professionals (SAMPP) will see curation of seminars and workshops to support digital upskilling for non-tech sectors. We’re thrilled to welcome 68 new SG Digital Scholars to the SG Digital Leadership Accelerator (SGDLA) community, now over 1,000 strong! The scholarships were presented at the MDDI Family Scholarship Award Ceremony by Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo. IMDA's SG Digital Scholarship helps nurture talent in Singapore's tech and media sectors, offering scholars the flexibility to pursue careers beyond the public sector, in an organisation of their choice. Among them, 33 recipients will focus on AI-related fields. As AI continues to grow, the SG Digital Scholarship — part of IMDA’s SGDLA—is focused on building a strong community of Singaporean digital leaders in the tech ecosystem. This programme brings together emerging leaders at different career stages, offering them networking opportunities, mentorship from global tech leaders, and the chance to pay-it-forward to mentor the next generation of Singaporean talent. In her speech at the award ceremony, Minister Teo spoke on the importance of developing top talent in areas like AI cybersecurity, data analytics and media through the SG Digital Scholarship, an industry scholarship to boost Singapore’s digital economy. She also mentioned Aaron Tan, Kelvin Chng and . Aditya Lesmana, co-founders of automotive marketplace Carro, as three examples of SG Digital Scholars who had graduated and had done well. Indeed, many past scholars have gone on to become leaders in their fields - founders of high-growth tech startups, executives in major companies, and innovators developing cutting-edge products in areas like AI and quantum. Mentorship is essential for leadership development and is central to IMDA’s SG Digital Leadership Accelerator. At the SG Digital Leaders (SGDL) annual mixer, a key programme within the accelerator hosted by Senior Minister of State Kiat How Tan, SGDLs and global mentors connected and shared invaluable insights. The SGDL programme is designed to advance leaders through international experiences, mentorships, and networking. By pairing participants with mentors from IMDA’s global tech leaders network, we hope the exchange of ideas and experiences will drive innovation and foster growth. For instance, Jan Lim, a 2023 SGDL and Regional CEO, South-East Asia of Lenskart, made a significant leap in his career with the guidance of Zubin Gandevia, Founder of Venture Catalyst Investments. This mentorship was instrumental in his transition to a high-growth international startup and his subsequent enrolment in Wharton’s advanced management program. Similarly, Dorothy Yiu, a 2024 SGDL and CEO and Co-founder of EngageRocket—Asia’s first venture-backed people analytics software company—sought mentorship for practical business insights.
