𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬' 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥: 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬   Despite suffering a hand injury from a motorcycle incident, Iszam did not let that deter him from pursuing his passion for helping others. Being a Senior Staff Nurse in the Central Sterile Supply Unit at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Iszam takes pride in the important role he plays at the "Heart of the Hospital". With a goal of becoming a mentor in the future, Iszam took up Northumbria University's (NU) Nursing Degree to gain new skills and improve himself.   Nurul, too, understands the value of continuous learning. After a 10-year hiatus from her studies, Nurul decided to take a Nursing Degree from NU to improve herself and ensure that she is up-to-date with the latest practices to provide the best service to patients. 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬' 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥: 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 Despite initial doubts by his family on his choice of work, Praveen’s nursing skills were validated when he accurately identified his father's stroke symptoms which led to critical and timely medical attention. Currently working in the Central Sterile Supply Department at Raffles Hospital (Raffles Medical Group), Praveen emphasises the importance of work-life balance and continuous learning. He believes that a clear mind, the result of getting sufficient rest and personal time, is essential for effective work performance. As he pursues the Bachelor of Science Nursing (Top-up) programme from Northumbria University at Kaplan, Praveen aspires to become a leader in the growing nursing industry. 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝: 𝐀𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟕𝟏, 𝐯𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 Five years ago, at the age of 71, Mr Nadarajoo Sivanandan (Siva) defied expectations by receiving a Diploma in Legal Studies. Despite having a successful career as a court interpreter and retiring in 2010, Mr Siva's lifelong dream of studying law remained unfulfilled. Hence, in 2018, with a friend's encouragement, he enrolled in a Diploma programme at Kaplan and reacquainted himself with classroom learning and technology. Now retired, Mr Siva remains active, balancing part-time translation work, volunteer service and his love for the Tamil language. Mr Siva is a testament to the power of lifelong learning and the never-ending pursuit of one's dreams. 𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 “𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐩𝐚𝐜 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒” 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞    We were thrilled to host 26 STEM* scholars from across Australia through our university partner, Murdoch University in Australia, who are participating in a leadership programme sponsored by the prestigious Westpac Scholars Trust.   To kickstart the opening session, we had the privilege of having Mr Allaster Cox, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, speak with the students about the importance of the Australia-Singapore relationship. Over the past week, the scholars participated in an Amazing Race around Singapore and had the chance to interact with their Murdoch Singapore buddies. They also visited companies such as Infinite Studios and Amazon and presented their solutions to a challenge set by industry professionals from Accenture.   As part of Murdoch University’s efforts to prepare the next generation of leaders, this programme aims to equip students with valuable leadership skills.
