NUS IT Celebrates Singapore’s 59th National Day with Nostalgia, Prizes, and Delicious Bites! 🎉 Our Fun Club members from the 24/25 batch kicked off their first event with incredible energy, taking us back in time with beloved Singaporean games like tikam-tikam, snakes and ladders, five stones, chapteh, yo-yo, pick-up sticks, and spinning tops. The excitement didn’t stop there! Over 30 lucky prizes were up for grabs, along with a special best-dressed competition. 🏆 And… What's a celebration without awesome bites? To satisfy our cravings, we indulged in chilli crab puffs—a nod to one of our iconic national dishes—and a delightful Singapore kueh cake. It was an unforgettable National Day celebration at NUS IT. To thrive in this new landscape, leaders must leverage innovative strategies and emerging technologies.   At the 'SEA Visionary Leaders Panel: Strategies to Empower a Sustainable Future for Asia,' hosted by Paul Marriott, President of SAP Asia Pacific & Japan, our CITO Shui-Min Tan shared invaluable insights on the significance of transformation and upskilling. Joined by Kok Yeow Khoo, CIO of SinarMas, and Peerapong Krinchai, EVP - Central Engineering at Charoen Pokphand Foods, Shui-Min emphasised, "When it comes to cloud adoption, we ensured our approach was 'Cloud Smart' rather than just 'Cloud First'."   Meanwhile, our Director of IT Applications, Hse Ming Chan, contributed to the 'C-Suite Conversations: Evolving Role of the CIO & Orchestrating the Business as a Symphonic C-Suite.' We’re thrilled to share that our Head of NUS IT Security, Leong Boon ANG, recently took the stage as the moderator for the vibrant panel discussion "From Seed to Scale: The Start-up Journey." The panel featured distinguished speakers: · Mr. Saj Huq, Chief Commercial Officer of Plexal · Mr. Hsien-Hui Tong, Executive Director, Investments at SGInnovate · Mr. Kumar Ritesh, Founder and CEO of CYFIRMA   This event was part of the grand opening of the CyberSG Talent, Innovation, and Growth (TIG) Collaboration Centre! The event featured distinguished guests including Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communication and Information of Singapore (MCI), as the Guest of Honour, along with Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of NUS, and Mr. David Koh, Chief Executive of the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA).   The CyberSG TIG Collaboration Centre is a joint initiative between CSA and NUS, aimed at elevating talent, innovation, and growth programmes. This strategic partnership aspires to position Singapore as a premier global cybersecurity innovation hub, driving economic growth and meeting the rising demand for robust cybersecurity solutions.   Leong Boon expertly engaged the panellists with questions tailored to each expert’s journey and also fielded questions from eager attendees ready to kickstart their own start-up adventures.   Overall, it was an informative and inspiring session, highlighting that cybersecurity is a collaborative effort. “I am so proud and excited to announce that the solutions built through this hackathon will potentially bring us 400k man-hours savings! This, dear colleagues, is an amazing 10-fold increase from the previous 2022 hackathon savings!” - Shui-Min Tan, Chief Information Technology Officer of NUS. 🎉 DE’Hackathon 2.0 just wrapped up yesterday, and what a grand finale it was! From the kickoff on 5th July, our NUS staff who participated in this worked tirelessly, unlocking AI magic and transforming work processes with innovative apps. 🏆 11 teams from 24 departments showcased their brilliance to our esteemed round 1 judges: • Prof. Goh Say Song, Dean of Admissions • Dr. Thian-Guan Peck, Deputy Chief Risk Officer • Mr. Roy Tan, Chief Agility Officer • Mr. Tiong Beng Ng, Director of IT Infrastructure • Mr. Hse Ming Chan, Director of IT Applications 👑 The top 3 teams then dazzled: • Prof. Bernard Tan, Senior Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education • Mr. Kian Woo Tan, Senior Vice President and CFO • Ms. Tan Shui-min, CITO • Our guest of honour, NUS President Prof. Tan Eng Chye 🏅 We also have the Outstanding Participation Award (Department) and the winning department is the Office of President! This award goes to the department with the largest number of staff participants in this year’s hackathon. 🎖️ And we added a new award for outstanding participation by schools with exceptional staff involvement. Annnd… the winning school is the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine! 🌟 Our NUS President was thrilled to see 4 teams with members from 3 departments and 1 team with representatives from 5 departments! This showcases the true spirit of #OneNUS. Seeing both novices and experts dive into the world of digital and AI tools was truly inspiring. 👏 A huge shoutout to all our participants and the NUS IT Digital Enablement team for making this event a phenomenal success! Exciting News! On July 5th, 2024, NUS and StarHub inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create Singapore's first 'Borderless University'. 🌟   This pioneering initiative will elevate our teaching and learning experience with ultra-fast, secure network connectivity across the island, supported by a dedicated Enterprise 5G data network and innovative eSIM technology.   Ms Shui-Min Tan, NUS Chief Information Technology Officer, shared, "This collaboration with StarHub aligns with our vision for a future-oriented learning environment.
