Thank you Teck Wee Tiong and Shawn Ang for an insightful article on directors' liabilities in climate change and ESG reporting.
Climate change is the new reality in which businesses operate. Companies have to take steps to address the direct and indirect impact of climate change on their businesses. This task invariably falls on directors who are charged with steering and safeguarding the business and interests of their companies. Against this backdrop, it is pertinent to consider the potential liabilities that a director could be exposed to. In the Singapore Institute of Directors’ latest Q3 2024 Bulletin, our Co-Head of Sustainability & Responsible Business Teck Wee Tiong and Associate Shawn Ang contributed an article exploring three areas where such liabilities could arise: in business decision-making, disclosure and reporting, and greenwashing. The article also provides practical tips and guidance on what directors can and should do to discharge their duties and mitigate potential liability in these areas. Ahoy! #EventAlert in Singapore 🇸🇬 for those keen to learn about how to become a #BoardDirector. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to establish the #NewDirectorsNetwork at the Singapore Institute of Directors. 🎩 tips to Howie, Su-Yen, Junie for reposing their faith in me. We had found an under addressed space in how an #Executive should chart their #NonExecutive journey, since deciding on which organisation to serve as a #BoardMember is a non-linear process that’s in contrast to the linearities of applying for a #CorporateFullTime role. Dial forward three years, and those early, tentative baby steps have become firm strides of a young adult; by hosting events where new and aspiring directorial candidates learn from those ahead of the curve. For our next event, we are delighted to be hosted by Kuan-Thye SEAN, Tan Tzann Chang . and their amazing team at The NUSS - National University of Singapore Society 🤝🫵🏼👌🏽🥂🎩 I will be hosting a panel discussion with Serene, Frank and Chee Weng Lam to share our journey and how much of it is or remains #AlwaysInBeta! 📆 July 16th, 2024 (Tuesday) 🕰️ 630pm, Registration & Canapés 📍Suntec City Guildhouse Function Room Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gUEYhjbA Please ping Christopher Lee (email in the eDM) for all else. This event is open to non-NUSS and non-SID members and not just #Corporate or #Listed firms as well as #Startups, #Charities or #SMEs #BeThereOrBeSquare. #WelcomeAll
