Jeremy discussed the importance of understanding both equity and debt financing for startups, how debt can help unlock hidden value, and the key differences in the due diligence process between venture debt and venture equity. He also shared valuable insights on building a #career in the venture capital industry. A seasoned investor, Jeremy also regaled the audience with stories from his time in Silicon Valley. He recounted the challenges and triumphs of guiding a startup through successive expansions, a delayed IPO, and ultimately, a successful exit from his role as a Board member. Through these experiences, he emphasized the importance of strategic decision-making, adaptability, and maintaining a long-term perspective in the face of uncertainty. Beyond business, Jeremy shared his personal wish for a 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 all-in-one travel planning app. He envisioned a platform that could seamlessly handle everything from itinerary planning and booking to real-time updates and personalized recommendations. But behind this seemingly simple habit lies a billion-dollar revolution that is brewing in Southeast Asia. Grab-and-go coffee chains are more than just convenient pit-stops: they're disrupting the entire coffee industry. The coffee market in Southeast Asia is a booming $461.25 billion industry, projected to expand at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2023 to 2030. While the market is ripe with opportunity, the grab-and-go players are stealing a march on the global coffee giants. Key factors driving their success include: 📲𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲: Mobile apps for ordering, payment, and loyalty programs create seamless customer experiences. 🪑𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Smaller stores, limited seating, and efficient workflows translate to lower costs and faster service 💲𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Competitive pricing, often significantly lower than traditional coffee chains, appeals to the growing middle class 💟𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Many brands offer unique taste profiles and customization options, catering to local preferences. The coffee battle in Southeast Asia has only just begun. As consumer preferences evolve, the industry will witness further consolidation and disruption.
