When photography is combined with evolving art technology, artists and game developers can build boundless worlds within games using mother nature’s workmanship. As we celebrate World Photography Day 📸 this week, we spoke to Wen Peng from our photogrammetry team in Virtuos Chengdu, who shared about his journey to Demon City, found in the vast Gobi Desert, to capture photos and scans of the terrain. “It's an adventure I'll never forget. We spent 14 nights in the Gobi Desert taking photographs and scanning the terrain with a drone. Our living conditions were pretty rugged, but nature's breathtaking sights were truly invigorating,” Wen Peng told us. “This field assignment was more than just a job - it was a journey that left us with a lifetime's worth of memories and fresh inspiration for our game designs.” With advancing technology, gamers expect photorealistic and immersive art in AAA games. At Virtuos, we have been consistently accumulating a wide variety of photogrammetry resources and references, so that our artists can produce top-quality art assets for games in shorter time frames. Double the paws, double the fun! 🐱🐶 Did you know both International Cat Day and International Dog Day fall in August? Earlier this month, we ran a “straw poll” to find out which furry companion was more popular as a pet among our colleagues. While cats took the top spot, many of us were also happy to show off our pups at home! Since many of them sent adorable pics of their pals with us, we thought it was only fair to share some with you too! Check out their cute faces below 🥰 Have a four-legged friend at home? Share photos of them with us in the comments below! (P.S. we would also like to have a word with the dinosaur and dragon owners in our team 👀) #internationalcatday #internationaldogday

Virtualized geometry is a cutting-edge technology that allows games to maintain a high degree of visual fidelity, without having to compromise as much on performance, and has several benefits including reducing production hours for artists. However, this solution needs to be bolstered by game engines that can accommodate increased performance while working within memory budget. Virtuos has developed an approach called Hi-Res Vision, which was created in a flexible manner to be compatible with any engine. Find out how Hi-Res Vision has improved game performance and efficiency for our partners in this article by 80 Level: https://lnkd.in/gnSr3Dk4

After almost nine years and 100 projects later, Beyond-FX founder Keith Guerrette and his studio took a leap of faith and joined Virtuos in March 2024. During a chat with Keith, he shared the reason why he chose to join forces with our global team. "The truth is, we were growing past my confidence to lead – I’m a VFX artist, not an international businessman. However, we were playing at a scale that would require me to grow a business development team, HR team, finance team, and more. This was pulling me further and further away from the actual development work that I love." "Virtuos was an opportunity for us to partner with experts who were already succeeding in those areas, and I'm excited to focus my attention on VFX development, mentorship, and client value," he elaborated. Both Keith and Becka McIntosh, Deputy GM at Beyond-FX, shared that education and mentorship has always been the heart of the studio. "At Beyond-FX, we are huge on giving back to the VFX community through sharing educational content with no strings attached, to empower and educate other VFX artists."
