Celebrating International Women's Day with Women in VSEA chapter Jakarta, Aspire and KUMPUL. 💡 Fun fact: This event is the result of spontaneous ideas and random Whatsapp chats and truly a testament to how powerful women's collaboration can be! I had this discussion with Chloe Tan back then to help plan the IWD party in Jakarta, but I had no resources to run it. Then one day, Stacia Gitta Wiranata chatted with me, just checking the pipeline and seeing if we could collaborate for IWD because Iga Andita Lestari was interested to join. AND JUST LIKE THAT, a Whatsapp group created, date and venue locked, invitations sent, and TODAY WE DID IT! 🎉 Even beyond our initial expectations 🤯 , our event was graced by the presence of Ibu Ir. Siti Azizah MBA from Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs of The Republic of Indonesia and Ibu Melissa A. Hamid, Ketua Umum BPP HIPMI Womenpreneur. The event was short and intimate, but full of powerful connections and fun chats, super love it 💕 THANKS AGAIN for coming, ladies! Let's collaborate for the success of the VC ecosystem in Indonesia and in SEA! Catch up again real soon! 🦋 Su Wern Khor Mega Prawita Roro Mega Cahyaning 'Azmi Riyandani Beatrix Lungidita D. LinkedIn's algorithm does a great job of attracting our posts to a broader audience within our domain. Lately, I've connected with even more fellow members of the value creation team, and I love how we can exchange notes on best practices to excel in our jobs. One thing that keeps coming up in our discussion is how broad the definition of value creation is, and there's no clear delineation of our responsibilities. We do many things, yet our role feels auxiliary. I discussed this concern in a recent mentorship session with Ee Ling Lim of 500 Global (thanks to the Women in VSEA cool initiative, I could get connected to amazing women leaders and learn from their rich experience). She advised me to make a list of key priorities and goals for what I should achieve in my role and discuss it upfront with management. Not to forget that we are in the business of returning profit to investors; the ultimate client is our LP(s)! So whatever you do, make sure it aligns with their interests. Joining communities, connecting with new peeps, and learning from each other are the things I look forward to every day (but sadly, most are still online). Maybe we should host more community meetups in Jakarta?

Women in VSEA had our annual year end party last week! Filling a room with incredible ladies across functions and roles of VC is so heartwarming. We made new friends, caught up with old ones, celebrated our year and shared excitement for what's to come in the next year. Women in VSEA has evolved a ton in the past year and I can't wait to share more about what we're building for 2024 in due time. Good vibes as always - thank you B Capital for hosting us! ❤️

In my latest newsletter to Women in VSEA, I shared about our latest hangout in Ho Chi Minh City. I think it was one of the best panels I’ve been to. We dove into stories and learnings from Shuyin TangPhuong Tran, and Mimi Duong, moderated by Thao Ha. Some things we talked about: - VCs function just like a startup. There are certain skills you must have to thrive; hustling, agility, the ability to navigate uncertainties. - Who you’re in a battle with matters; when you write checks, you’re signing up to be on the same team as the founders and coinvestors for a while. Do this with people you like, respect, and get along well with; then, even the hardest hurdles will feel manageable. - In VC you literally get paid to learn, so go and do exactly that. Every meeting, pitch or exchange is a conversation to explore and learn more. Stay curious, ask questions, seek to understand the why of things and dig until you understand the how. We also talked about what the path to success looks like in the VC space, especially for platform roles like People/Ops/Marketing; what misconceptions we had when we first started in VC vs now; the glorified "power" that VCs seem to hold when writing checks, but also the weight of these decisions; how we manage being our own critics while always learning with new information. I felt a tiny teardrop at some point; I felt so seen and understood. I'm so happy to be doing this whole VC thing with some of the brightest minds, and to have such open and honest conversations with each other. Special thanks to Nam Tran, Quyen Nguyen and our friends at Wiziin Inc. for making this happen. We're only at the beginning... there's so many more to come! *** We're having a casual Sushi Night in Singapore this Thursday - we have last few slots left if you'd like to come: https://lu.ma/wvsea-aws

✅ to our first Women in VSEA Vietnam event! Aside from bringing #WomeninVC together, we hosted a panel featuring Shuyin Tang from Beacon Fund/Patamar Capital, Phuong Tran from Wavemaker Partners, Mimi Duong from AVV (Ascend Vietnam Ventures) and Thao Ha from Integra Partners as our moderator. We were intentional about curating a panel with various roles and strengths. With that, it was so insightful to hear their personal mottos and values that came along with it. I personally took a bunch of notes in my phone including a little about building a strong network to get through the trenches together, being thoughtful and intentional throughout the dealmaking process and learning to deal with failure. HUGE shout-out to Nam Tran & Quyen Nguyen this couldn't have happened without you both ❤️. Special thanks to Earth Venture Capital & Wiziin Inc. for hosting us in your cozy office! See you next time, Vietnam! 🎉

The VC path is pretty opaque and honestly, it can still feel a little foggy even when you're in it. "Being a VC" goes beyond investment roles, too. There's a million different paths into VC... and a gazillion others after. That's why I'm so excited for an evening of intimate conversation with amazing Women in VSEA in Vietnam next week! Moderated by Thao Ha, we'll be chatting with Shuyin Tang (Patamar Capital & Beacon Fund(, Phuong Tran (Wavemaker Partners) and Mimi Duong (AVV (Ascend Vietnam Ventures)); we will delve into the how's and why's of their journeys, the challenges they've navigated, and the golden question of "What did you wish you knew before?" How did they get into VC? What opportunities did they jump at? How did the skills from their pre-VC shape their VC career? What would they have done differently? Come hear from them on Aug 17 in Ho Chi Minh City. Bring a friend, and we'll see you there: https://lu.ma/wvsea17aug
