About

I am a versatile leader with expertise in media, content strategy, branding, public relations, community engagement, and business development.

At present I helm the content teams at Tatler Asia (Singapore).

BRAND, CONTENT & MEDIA
With experience in launching three businesses, I excel in building brands from scratch and bringing them to market. My media background as a journalist strengthens my content strategy skills. I have overseen global branding for Everise, an innovative customer experience outsourcing company; and have managed content for sustainability-focused tech start-up abillion and TripAdvisor. My roots are in the media sector; I have a rich background in various media, including newspapers, magazines, digital media, and TV, having worked as a writer, editor, producer, and host.

COMMUNICATIONS
As a communications expert, I have managed in-house teams for major charity organizations, led regional communications for TripAdvisor, and directed global PR efforts for both a B2C tech start-up and a BPO. With experience as an agency head, I have executed local, regional, and global campaigns for clients in diverse industries, including F&B, hospitality, travel, technology, government, and banking.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & PUBLIC AFFAIRS
As a Director at the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, I oversaw Corporate Community Investment, marketing, advocacy, and fundraising, managing national giving campaigns and helping stakeholders create impactful programs. At the National Arts Council, I fostered growth and development for visual and literary arts, artists, and related institutions. As an entrepreneur, I launched Straits Clan, a private club promoting community building and thought leadership among Singapore's diverse leaders.

Straits Clan was developed by Members Only Hospitality, a Singapore-based company founded by me and various partners, including the Lo & Behold Group. The purpose was to set up and operate a groundbreaking, inclusive and diverse private membership club and community here in Singapore.

We envisioned Straits Clan becoming the nexus for a new generation of creatives, entrepreneurs and persons engaged in social responsibility and change. This club's membership base was not to be determined by wealth, status, age or profession. We welcomed anyone who inspired others and who had a genuine interest in networking with other exciting individuals. In other words, we wanted to build a space for people who were interesting, who were doing amazing things, dreaming up great ideas, pushing boundaries, thinking deep thoughts, and who were genuinely interested in connecting with others that might inspire them.

The club house offered dining, working, drinking, health, wellness, and fitness spaces. We also created and curated exciting and inspirational events on a regular basis. The site's location was in a beautiful, 22,000 sq ft historic building in Chinatown.

The Lo & Behold Group was our appointed management company.

(UPDATE) In 2020, we sold the company to the M Group and the club has been renamed the Mandala Club.

Secret Delicious is a show idea I pitched to ThreeSixZero, which was able to get Mediacorp to commission it. The show focuses on discovering the insider secrets in the restaurant and bar world in Asia. In each episode, I visited a different city and explored secret restaurants, speakeasy bars, met private dining chefs and attended invitation only meals. Ate is one of the most unique groups of creative lifestyle-driven, communications and content strategy companies in Asia.

We are admired for our creative concepts and ideas and respected for our efficiency and execution abilities.

Originally founded in Singapore in 2006 as a boutique consultancy providing lifestyle companies with innovative solutions for their communications and marketing needs, Ate has since grown into one of Singapore’s most dynamic and creative organizations. As it has grown, its service scope has also been narrowed and more rigorously defined.

Our core area of expertise is in lifestyle, which encompasses luxury and retail; travel and hospitality; food and beverage; media and technology. We excel at not only servicing companies in these fields but also in creating solutions for other clients (as well as ourselves) using our expertise in these areas to create new and extraordinary lifestyle products.

Our clients have included Singapore Tourism Board, ieSingapore, American Express, MasterCard, DBS Bank, BSI Bank, National Heritage Board Singapore, Keppel Land, Unilever, Louis Vuitton, TWG Tea, Van Cleef & Arpels, Vertu, Mr & Mrs Smith, Alila Hotels & Resorts, The Peninsula Hotels Group, Miele, and the Culinary Institute of America, to name a few.

My wife and I founded the group. For the first few years, we shared duties and did everything: management, pitching, strategy development, execution. Over the years, and as we grew, we moved into specialty areas. I specialized in Strategy and was the group strategic head. In 2012, as part of a group restructure, I stepped down from full-time duties to act as a board member and occasional strategic consultant. In 2017, I sold all of my shares to my wife, who is the group's CEO.

In early 2013, I made the decision to dedicate the current stage of my career to "giving back" and so, decided to step down from operational duties at The Ate Group and take up a position within this nonprofit organisation.

At NVPC, I was in charge of Marketing, Advocacy and Development (fundraising). The Advocacy and Development teams I had to build from scratch. I was, in taking over Marketing, also been tasked with redeveloping NVPC's overall brand, starting with better articulation of the organisation's vision and mission to internal and external stakeholders and including picking a new slogan, redeveloping all corporate collaterals and communications platforms, and building a proactive media and marketing strategy (which did not exist previously). Through the Advocacy team, I tried building new public platforms to better develop a more engaged, informed and compassionate civil society in Singapore. Two of our first projects were the bringing to Singapore of the global #GivingTuesday campaign and the relaunch of the website Salt, which I had transformed into a thought-leadership site that carries op eds by prominent local thinkers on issues shaping our society.

I had also been asked to take over the division driving Corporate Community Investment. This too had required a total redevelopment of the division's workplans as we try and inspire more local companies in Singapore to give in more informed and sustainable ways.
