“Brandon is intuitive, strategic and compassionate, who always has the big picture in mind. He is a leader who trusts in others, and is the first to roll up his sleeve and get in the trenches with the team. He is kind and able to think from others’ point of view in order to provide focused support. I have enjoyed bouncing ideas around with Brandon, who is open-minded and always keen to improve processes with the goal of a better environment for everyone. Brandon is a great team player and a decisive leader, and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to work closely with him.”

What do you do if you're an HR professional facing burnout?
A good way to reduce burnout is to do up an energy audit. Look at your calendar, identify tasks or projects that are either energising or draining. Then further classify those tasks or projects into work that brings high leverage or low leverage. Once you've done this, attempt to request for or carve out for yourself more work that is both "energising" and have "high leverage" while speaking to your manager to either automate or re-allocate resources for work that might be "draining" and "low leverage"

How can your HR strategy be more responsive to changing business environments?
As a HR professional, the only real way to identify the key drivers of change is to walk lockstep with the business through effective and frequent business partnering. Identification of key drivers should not be performed within the silos of the HR department but should be collated from the many conversations with the business.

What do you do if your HR team is struggling to learn from failure and prevent future mistakes?
In the Asian context, being comfortable to admit failure does not come naturally - which means that embracing it is an even taller order. From my observation, teams that have been successful at this must incorporate this officially as a frequent ritual. To allay tension, the most senior person in the room should start by sharing their own failed experiences, what they've learnt from it, as well as how mitigations were then subsequently applied for the long-term. It is important to normalise failure and to show that it happens to the best of us.
