  • Snowstorm - Design and Construction of an Electric Recreational Flying Machine

    IEEE

This project explores indoor flying as a recreational activity. From the onset, indoor flying should require no or very low local emissions with low levels of noise, which strongly suggests electric propulsion. Considerations of safety and cost led us to a multi-copter design. This paper describes the design of Snowstorm, an experimental recreational flying machine developed at the National University of Singapore. Innovative features include a conducive propeller, seat and landing gear arrangement, triply-redundant power management, mechanical, electrical and electronic safety measures and a motor control architecture that re-uses proven multi-copter control software and hardware.

  • Personal Flying Machine - Snowstorm

    - Present

    - The aim of the project was to design a completely maneuverable electric personal flying machine capable of lifting off vertically with a human of about 70kg on-board.
    - The design phase included challenges like comparing and choosing a mechanical structure based on strength and feasibility, and choosing materials to build the machine with so as to ensure minimum weight.
    - The testing phase included challenges like designing a setup to test the 24 propellers and determine the values of…

    - The testing phase included challenges like designing a setup to test the 24 propellers and determine the values of lift force produced by each of them.
    - The prototyping phase involved the construction and assembly of the entire flying machine into a hexa-copter design about 2m tall and 4m wide.

  • MedSafe - Medicine Management System

    -

    - The aim of the project was to develop an automated medicine sorting and storing system so as to reduce the wastage of medicines, reduce the occurrences of maladministration of medication and make the current process of sorting medicines in hospitals more efficient.
    - A three-fold system was proposed to improve the verification of medicines, check individual packets for damage and sort them accordingly.
