How can you track your product's competitive performance?
I would say, instead of starting with identifying competitor, the first step, and before key metric is to identify what is the problem statement to solve for the customer/market, and what is the strategic objective at this point of time. It could be proving product market fit, scale up, or optimization of current existing funnel to improve unit economics and business health before next phase of business expansion. We cannot define key metrics without alignment business objective and go to market strategy and it should be the foremost important part of this exercise. Identifying competition is only one component of understanding the current landscape but no the end all be all in determining direction.

What is the STAR method for interviewing candidates for customer-facing positions?
I find STAR method extremely helpful because it allows for a discussion on the objective defining, thought process, insights finding and execution iterations before getting the quantifiable results. No 2 challenges are the same, even from within the same company; so it isn't about asking how that experience can help, but an exploration if the candidate will be able to figure out the right thing to do, and do it the right way if the candidate does join.
