WP:Requests for page protection

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, move-protected, or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 4 header (i.e. ==== {{lx|Example}} ====, where "x" stands for the namespace) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note: this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Current requests for protection

[සංස්කරණය]

Place requests for either semi-protection, full protection, move protection, or create protection at the TOP of this section. Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection, There have been multiple online rumors that Aretha Franklin has passed away, however there are not been any credible reports that this has actually happened. There have been some edit wars already on the page going back and forth between Franklin having passed away or not passed away. --Flyguy33 (talk) 05:28, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Way too much IP editing providing the blow-by-blow updates, as is endemic in these articles. Temporary protection will suffice: as soon as the TV show is over the kids will start doing something else. Drmies (talk) 04:30, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Non-Admin Comment - >Article already seems to be pending changes protected which should be enough for IP editing only. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 06:02, 28 December 2010 (UTC) Disregard that. The article may be Pending Changes protected, but it's doing absolutely nothing to stop the flood of IP editors. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 06:34, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Indefinite create-protection, I appreciate that this editor is now blocked but I thought I'd request create protection as this page was used as a blatant attack page so that when they're unblocked (hopefully) they won't re-create it. 5 albert square (talk) 00:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Trebor (talk) 23:22, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, The same (apparently) defamatory edit coming from different IPs from the same range (OPAL telecom) on different days. The fact that this is once per day shows this is more than random vandalism. (talk) 22:29, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:37, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism. This page was semi-protected for a one week period and it completely stopped the vandalism, which is 100% from unregistered users, only to resume again after protection was lifted. The page is high traffic and lots of info is being lost in the frequent reverts and blanking. -Lhall (talk) 22:15, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Declined, for now. It's hard to tell what's going on. Some of the edits seem okay, and the material being removed is unsourced, at least in the diffs I looked at. Can you give some examples of the vandalism or bad editing? SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:39, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Sure thing. Most of the problematic edits are small, but they are constant. Lately it's all related to rumored toys coming out, as in this edit -- I've removed that one at least 20 times in the last month or so, but I've been doing that for several months now and it keeps coming back. Additionally there's the occasional drop-in vandal and blanking. Here's an example of some random blanking and replacement and there are often instances where content is blanked and totally re-written...not necessarily a bad thing, but the quality varies and it's pretty inefficient. I've tried to add in references where possible, along with citation needed tags, but they never stay in place long enough to make a difference.
Ultimately, it seems that most of the IP edits are coming from the younger end of the fans' age spectrum and from random drop-ins, and I think encouraging them to actually register and learn the rules of Wikipedia would benefit the article immensely. I think the article is significant enough to warrant this type of attention, given that it's getting 2.5k views minimum per day. I'm happy to provide more examples if needed. Thanks! -Lhall (talk) 01:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Ive lost count how many times this page has been protected. Long term protection is needed, vandalism is picking up as well as unsourced edits. Thank you. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 21:58, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection

[සංස්කරණය]

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you want an existing page unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection, Template talk page was indef semi-protected in January of this year with the reason "Attracting to much nonsense. Note: This talkpage is not about some article, it is about the | template". This came after only one recent instance of vandalism, which is hardly enough to merit semiprotection. cymru.lass (hit me up)(background check) 02:12, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Not unprotected Looks like it attracted almost nothing but spam last year. Doesn't seem that IP's want to edit this page legitimately. Courcelles 02:33, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Unprotection, Was originally protected due to a sock-puppet who appears to be no longer active. Protecting admin has no issue as long as an eye is kept on the article. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 19:57, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Unprotected and watchlisted. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:04, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[සංස්කරණය]
When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here.

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, After being protected for a month, this list is being has immediately suffered from a daily blitz of unhelpful IP edits trying to add non-reliable sources to prove that Enthiran is the #1 film by box office income in India. Exactly the same reason that the Enthiran page is protected. This is either lobbying or overly keen fanboys with the same unencyclopaedic result. (talk) 18:14, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Temporary Semi-protect. Currently ongoing high level of IP vandalism of various IPs. GermanJoe (talk) 17:56, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Dabomb87 (talk) 19:05, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection (with possible pending-changes protection until day before countdown) While nothing as yet has happened to this page in particular, the request comes out of the vandalism that occured on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2008 and Triple J Hottest 100, 2009 pages at the very start of the respective years (for the whole month of January). During and after the 2008 countdown (and reiterated for the 2009 countdown), it was agreed by the editors at the time to put the page under semi-protection during the countdown. (The pending-changes protection is simply to curb predictions by the few auto-confirmed editor-vandals, and may be ignored as seen fit.) JB Adder | Talk 14:41, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Declined – Pages are not protected pre-emptively. I have watchlisted the article, though, and will protect if vandalism begins to pick up. Dabomb87 (talk) 19:01, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
