  • Mike Tyson started his boxing career at the age of 13.
  • Tyson was the youngest heavyweight champion in history.
  • Tyson is set to face Jake Paul for his comeback fight on the professional level.

Former unified heavyweight boxing world champion Mike Tyson not only became a successful professional boxer but also experienced many challenges throughout his career. Thanks to his grit, he was able to overcome them and steady his ship.

He’s preparing for his comeback inside the ring, as he is set to take on Jake Paul later this year. The original date of their fight was postponed because of his health issue caused by an ulcer flare-up. Tyson is the slight betting underdog in BetMGM’s online sportsbook via the boxing odds heading into this match with the social media personality. This fight is expected to add to Mike Tyson’s net worth in 2024.

Before he takes on Paul, let’s look at his career history, the division he competed in, and several facts about him.

What Age Did Mike Tyson Start Boxing as a Kid?

Tyson was introduced to boxing when he was 13 years old. The owner of Tryon School for Boys Club, Bobby Stewart, influenced him to try the sport, and from then on, he took the professional route and became one of boxing’s biggest stars in history.

At 20 years old, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when he captured the WBC World Heavyweight title against Trevor Berbick, who he TKO’d in the second round of their championship showdown.

How Much Does Mike Tyson Weigh?

During the peak of his career, Tyson competed in the heavyweight division and weighed between 215 to 240 pounds. That weight range allowed him to cut weight perfectly whenever he prepared for a fight.

Tyson weighed 220 pounds during his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Their fight was ruled a draw after neither fighter scored a stoppage win.

Why Did Mike Tyson Quit Boxing?

Tyson retired from boxing at 39 in 2005 after conceding a retirement defeat against Kevin McBride despite being up in the judges’ scorecards. He said the main reason was his love for the sport was long gone, and it wasn’t fun for him anymore.

Who Was Mike Tyson’s Last Opponent?

Tyson’s last opponent was McBride in June 2005, where he conceded a sixth-round retirement defeat. But he returned in an exhibition match against Jones Jr. in November 2020. Due to his decent performance from that bout, fans want to see him more inside the ring.

He’s making an official comeback at the professional level. Later this year, he will take on Jake Paul after their previous match was postponed due to Tyson’s ulcer flare-up.
