A hitter needs a fair portion of luck to compete for the most RBIs in an MLB game. Of course, they need to have a very productive day at the plate, but they also need to repeatedly come up with runners on base.
Hitting three or even four home runs is no guarantee that a player will get close to this list. Having recorded 10 or more RBIs in a game is an exclusive club. Only 16 players have achieved this feat in MLB history, and no one has done it more than once.

T-1 Jim Bottomley — 12 RBIs
With six hits, including two homers, Jim Bottomley became the first player to record 12 RBIs in an MLB game.
Bottomley was a first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals and achieved this record against the Brooklyn Robins in 1924.
T-1 Mark Whiten — 12 RBIs
Almost 71 years later, Mark Whiten became the second player to have 12 RBIs in an MLB game.
It was the second game of a doubleheader. Whiten, like Bottomley, was playing for the Cardinals. His way of getting to 12 RBIs was very different, though, as he clobbered four homers, including a grand slam off Larry Luebbers.
T-3 Wilbert Robinson — 11 RBIs
Wilbert Robinson was the first player in MLB history to have 11 RBIs in a single game.
Back in 1892, Robinson had 11 ribbies for the Baltimore Orioles against the St. Louis Browns. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Old-Timers Committee in 1945.
T-3 Tony Lazzeri — 11 RBIs
Tony Lazzeri was far from the biggest name in the 1936 New York Yankees lineup. That didn’t stop him from starring against the Philadelphia Athletics in May 1936.
Lazzeri hit three homers and a triple on his way to 11 RBIs in a 25-2 win for the Yankees.
T-3 Phil Weintraub — 11 RBIs
Playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944, Phil Weintraub had four extra-base hits and 11 RBIs. It was a large part of an exceptional offensive performance from the New York Giants.
The Giants scored 26 runs on the day, with Ernie Lombardi contributing seven RBIs and Mel Ott getting on base seven times.
T-6 Rudy York — 10 RBIs
Just two years after Weintraub’s effort, Rudy York had 10 RBIs for the Boston Red Sox against the St. Louis Browns.
York batted in 10 of Boston’s 13 runs on the day, including grand slams in the second and fifth innings. York, a seven-time All-Star, finished the 1946 season with a .808 OPS as the Red Sox lost the World Series in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals.
T-6 Walker Cooper — 10 RBIs
Three, three-run homers powered Walker Cooper to 10 RBIs for the Cincinnati Reds against the Chicago Cubs in July 1949.
Cooper recorded six hits in his seven plate appearances in one of the best single-game offensive performances ever produced by a catcher.
T-6 Norm Zauchin — 10 RBIs
Norm Zauchin amassed just 1.3 career bWAR. He still has a place in the MLB history books, however, thanks to his 10 RBIs against the Washington Nationals in 1955.
Zauchin had four extra-base knocks, including three homers. A grand slam off Dean Stone in the second inning got the ball rolling for Zauchin as the Red Sox beat the Nationals 16-0.
T-6 Reggie Jackson — 10 RBIs
Reggie Jackson had five hits against the Red Sox in 1969. Three of those went for extra bases, including a pair of homers.
The Oakland Athletics’ offence put the Red Sox pitching staff to the sword. Scoring 21 runs on the day, Jackson claimed 10 of his 118 RBIs for the season.
T-6 Fred Lynn — 10 RBIs
At 23 years old, Fred Lynn is the youngest player to record 10 RBIs in an MLB game. Lynn did so in a 15-1 win for the Red Sox over the Detroit Tigers in 1975.
Lynn, batting between Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice, had three homers and a triple. He went on to win MVP and Rookie of the Year in 1975, as the Red Sox lost the World Series in seven games to the Cincinnati Reds.
T-6 Nomar Garciaparra — 10 RBIs
Nomar Garciaparra only needed three hits to register 10 RBIs against the Seattle Mariners in 1999. He went deep for all three of those hits, with two grand slams and a solo shot.
Named an All-Star for a second time in 1999, Garciaparra also won the first of back-to-back batting titles.
T-6 Alex Rodriguez — 10 RBIs
Alex Rodríguez was at the peak of his powers in 2005 and on his way to his second MVP award. He was already a leading candidate for the hardware in baseball odds when he clocked 10 RBIs against the Los Angeles Angels in April.
A-Rod had three homers and a single. All three long balls were off Bartolo Colon, with a three-run shot in the first, a two-run bomb in the third, and a grand slam in the fourth.
T-6 Garret Anderson — 10 RBIs
Four extra-base hits, featuring a grand slam and a three-run shot, got Garret Anderson into the 10-RBI club in 2007. The Los Angeles Angels blew out the Yankees at Angel Stadium with Mike Mussina, Ron Villone, Edwar Ramirez, and Sean Henn all conceding multiple runs.
With a 114 OPS+, the 2007 season was a resurgence for Anderson after struggling for most of his thirties.
T-6 Anthony Rendon — 10 RBIs
A six-hit game with three homers set up Anthony Rendon to register 10 RBIs for the Washington Nationals against the New York Mets in 2017.

Rendon’s numbers coming into the game weren’t especially impressive, but the Nats’ offence set about dismantling the Mets’ pitching staff. Washington scored 23 runs on the day after starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard lasted a little more than an inning.
T-6 Scooter Gennett — 10 RBIs
One of two four-homer games on this list, Scooter Gennett had four home runs and a single against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017.
Gennett took John Gant deep twice, John Brebbia once, and launched a grand slam off Adam Wainwright. The Reds scored 13 runs on the day, with Eugenio Suárez batting in the other three.
T-6 Mark Reynolds — 10 RBIs
Even in the penultimate season of his MLB career, Mark Reynolds was a reliable online sports betting option to hit a home run. Reynolds had a 109 OPS+ for the Washington Nationals in 2018 and made history with 10 RBIs against the Miami Marlins in July.
The veteran slugger crushed Wei-Yin Chen and Elieser Hernández as the Nats won 14-8. Pedro Severino also homered for Washington, while Anthony Rendon and a 19-year-old Juan Soto recorded doubles.
