Alaïa ‘Curved Seam Detailed Skater Dress’ - $3,493.00

Taylor and Gracie were on fire (creatively and literally) this evening. Following a dinner out, the two of them returned to Taylor’s NYC apartment to co-write Gracie’s new song “us.” into the wee hour s of the morning. The songwriting session culminated in a slight fire emergency when a wayward cat tipped a candle over and started a small fire. Thanks to personal videos ℅ Gracie from this evening, I can now confirm that Taylor not only knows how to use a fire extinguisher but that she can do so while wearing a crisp white Alaïa dress.

You may in fact recognize this particular dress because Taylor has also worn it in black - albeit styled very differently. Here, with a boxy navy peacoat and platform loafers the dress takes on a crisp, schoolgirl uniform-in-fall/winter effect.

Anita Ko 'Quinn Graduated Pear Diamond Drop Earrings’ - $13,500.00
Anita Ko 'Triangle Eternity Ear Cuff’ - $3,850.00
Anita Ko 'Diamond Twist Ring’ - $10,625.00
Anita Ko 'Princess Eternity Ring’ - $4,775.00

To coordinate with her silver metallic look, it only made sense for Taylor to stack on the white gold jewelry. Since adding a few new lobe piercings to hear ears in August (two in the right, one in the left) this is her first red carpet appearance that changes out her stack.

All her jewelry was courtesy of Anita Ko who Taylor has worn on a number of red carpet appearances since 2022 including this year’s MTV VMAs and iHeartRadio Awards. Another fun crossover moment? Anita Ko also provided jewelry for last year’s 2022 MTV EMAs - the last time that the Giuseppe Zanotti heels Taylor wears here were worn.

Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Lilibeth Slingback Stiletto Sandals’ - $750.00

As a lover of the minimalist sandal, these peep toe slingbacks by Giuseppe Zanotti were a win for me - but I did briefly wonder why she may have opted for something black instead of a coordinating silver metallic to match her dress. My suspicion is these were chosen to match the lining we see on the dress and blend in nicely to let the “mirrorball” aspect of the gown be the star of the show.

Balmain custom

When it became apparent that Taylor was going to repay the favour Beyoncé did her by also appearing at the ‘Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé’ London premiere, it felt all but certain she would appear in an appropriate #RenaissanceSilver gown - and oh did she deliver.

I personally have a soft spot for a column gown and the clean, elegant silhouette it offers. One of my previous all time favourite Taylor red carpets happens to be a silver metallic column gown (the Gucci Première gown of the 2014 Grammys).

Where that Grammys look was styled almost sweetly with a ponytail, soft smoky eyes, and a pink nude lip - this take on a silver gown brings more Hollywood glam thanks to the deep side part, sexy waves, and bold red lip. To my eye, it actually feels like a great continuation of the retro glam girl aesthetic we first were served at the outset of the Midnights era - which feels appropriate given the release of “You’re Losing Me” doesn’t it?

The gown also contains references to Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, as seen in the rosette detail on the left bust and strap. Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, said that the floral motif throughout the collection was to deepen the house and its identity with French luxury. “These roses have thorns, you know?” he said. “The Balmain rose cannot just be a romantic rose. There is also toughness and strength. So it’s about love, it’s about colors, happiness and joy. But it’s also about torment! Just because you are tormented it doesn’t mean you need to do a black collection.” It’s very Swiftian.

Of course, as per usual - Taylor thinks of everything when it comes to selecting the designer to bring a look to life. Balmain having played a pivotal role in many of Beyoncé’s looks that she wore on the Renaissance World Tour. What a thoughtful homage to create that design crossover that beautifully pays respect to the many silver custom looks Bey wears on her stage while still feeling entirely Taylor. Very well played.

Gant ‘240 Mulberry Street Coat’ - coming soon

It’s always helpful (though a mild style faux pas) when Taylor leaves a label on to make identification a little bit easier. (Note that now is a great time to check - and remedy - if the label sleeves and tacking stitches on your coat vents are intact).

This particular navy coat comes from Gant’s Spring/Summer 2024 offerings (set for release in February) as part of their 240 Mulberry Street capsule collection. The brand so dubbed it as an homage to their creative headquarters in NYC, its storefront is also thoughtfully etched into the buttons of this coat.

A new-to-her brand, Taylor has been wearing a lot of Gant’s stunning coats as of late. This coat marks the second time she’s opted for something from their men’s line. It’s anticipated retail price will be about $800USD.

As always, I love when Taylor plays in sharp contrasts: Fabrics, proportions, price points. Here, it’s the interplay between sweet and girlish pieces like a white flouncy dress or schoolgirl-esque loafers with an oversized literally borrowed-from-the-boys jacket that gives the whole thing a chic, prep school vibe.

Saint Laurent ‘Cassandra Medium Shoulder Bag’ - $2,895.00

The history behind the 'YSL’ Cassandra line is an interesting one - it’s actually named after Adolphe Mouron Cassandre, the man who designed the iconic 'YSL’ logo seen here on the bag’s front.

A part of me can’t help but wonder if Taylor felt kinship to a bag that also shared a name with Cassandra, of Greek myth fame who was doomed to utter prophecies that no one would believe. The poetry of that possibility really strikes me as it feels almost assured that the next (Taylor’s Version) re-record release will be reputation - an album that of course has roots in a famed phone call gone wrong where Taylor told the truth and no one believed her. Too stretchy? Or totally plausible? Would love your thoughts!

Regardless, I love the sleek lines and chain detailing on this bag. But what I love most - if my eyes aren’t deceiving me - is this gorgeous green leather colour.

Sézane ‘Jessie Brown Python Print Loafers’ - $265.00

Taylor once again showing off her love of a good repeat, rewearing her Sézane python loafers. In this instance, I think their chunky heel offsets the boxy shape of her coat and dress nicely.

Miu Miu ‘Pleated Check Mini Skirt’ - sold out

I am an ardent supporter of formula outfits and have definitely worn a combination of this ‘fit myself. I think this iteration with flat chunky boots with a shorter shaft height are a more balanced (and trendy) iteration of the black sandwich style + plaid mini skirt outfit than the last time we saw this combo on her.

If this particular skirt looks familiar to you it’s because Taylor liked it and so she got it in a different colour after wearing this in a plaid iteration just last week - another closet approach I am personally guilty of.

The Row ‘Clotho Blazer’ - $3,350.00

Later in the evening, Taylor donned a boxy, oversized blazer that effectively created a 'new’ silhouette for the outfit that I think I much preferred to the look sans blazer.

Possibly because it eliminated the appearance of the low rise skirt - or simply because I just love a blazer moment.
