Stella McCartney Resort 2024

During the North American leg of the Eras Tour last summer, Taylor often returned to her home base in NYC. Now on the European leg of Eras, I had been wondering when we’d see her pop in London. The days ahead of her U.K. dates seemed like a fitting time as any. And oh is she saying things with this ensemble. 

Opting for Stella McCartney pieces while out to dinner with the designer and in said designer’s home city makes sense to me. The fact that she’d opt for something dark, sensuous, feminine, and with bustier / lingerie vibes feel on par for Poets fashion.

Though I think opting for either the bustier or the pants would have been great, who am I to deny Taylor a matching set moment - as was originally styled in the SM Resort 24 collection.

Based on some of the outfits which we saw in previous rehearsal stills from last March, my best guess is that this latest YouTube Short is a mix of old and new footage. Our biggest clues of new-ness being unseen choreography and props - like what appears to be a barre structure with the 'TTPD’ logo displayed in it, indicating that there will indeed be a Tortured Poets set on the Eras Tour when it returns to the stage in France on May 9.

The Row ‘Bufus Pleated Pants’ - $1,689.00

Based on the asymmetric pocket detail on the back, these are my best guess for Taylor’s pants - particularly given that she’s worn many pieces by The Row in recent months/years.

On a personal level, this is the kind of colour palette and style I feel most drawn to. Chic neutrals in smart silhouettes with pops of moody tones like burgundy. Plus some gold jewelry to accessorize. Yes!

Vince ‘Wide Leg Linen Trousers’ - $251.00

This sort of outfit really takes me back to the early aughts when the heyday of Avril Lavigne’s flimsy cropped tank tops and oversized wide leg cargo pants dominated the scene. A very skater girl fall moment!

While this side of Labour Day also tends to be recognized as the unofficial end to summer and transition to fall, it can still be disconcerting to see such a heavy look when the sun’s still out and temps are still high. To logic her way into an autumnal outfit here, Taylor’s opted for pants made of breezy linen.

Taylor is typically trend agnostic when it comes to her style. She largely eschews “it” bags or of the moment silhouettes in favour of pursuing her own thing (in support typically of her latest era).

So it’s very fun (and intriguing) to see Taylor rock trendy 90s-adjacent baggy denim, chunky gold jewelry, and thick sole.

I personally refer to this kind of outfit styling as “sandwich style”. Anchoring one piece of clothing in between one single colour to create a consistent palette and accessorizing.

I will always love a suited moment and I think there are so many fun aspects to this that I love. The black and white palette, the high neck of the top, and the general chevron pattern.

For a television moment, I feel like this print overload could come across as a bit dizzying and overwhelming. And sure, a simple swap of the top to a black one would have pared back the print overload enough. 

But I think she actually pulls off this print well - and it’s also so fun but with a slightly retro 70s nod with the power shoulder and flared shape of the pants. By creating a big block of pattern throughout her entire body that is almost overwhelming in its graphic overload - it actually forces you to look at her face for a respite. And I kind of love that in the craziness if you needed a second of calm for your eyes, that her face is where you need to rest to get it - especially because that high neckline stops just at her jaw.

Truthfully my only major complaint is that she should have quickly unbuttoned her jacket when going to sit down. Not just for a more comfortable seating experience for her, but also a cleaner line for still images.
