This marks a second time Taylor has made a direct pull from the VW FW 2024 lookbook. Like her previous look, shared by Brittany Mahomes when they were in Amsterdam, Taylor sought to diverge from the designer’s styling through her choice in footwear. The VW team styled this look with thigh-high red socks and tonal red platforms. Taylor instead opted for a Christmas Clueless-meets-Austin Powers aesthetic with crisp white socks and olive mary jane heels that bring out the green tones in her tartan set. I think the choice works to create a cohesive colour palette and makes more sense for the warmer weather in London. And also greeeeeeeeeeeen.

I personally love seeing the difference from in how a garment ultimately gets worn as a street style look it demonstrates an individual’s POV. The power of styling is everything! While a copy + paste of a campaign look is fun to see (esp for the designer kick of it all!), I think it’s most fun when someone brings that ‘styling’ element to a look and can depart dramatically from the designer’s original vision to give us their take on an outfit. I actually could imagine Taylor keeping the socks but opting in for those mary jane pumps and ditching the fussy shirt underneath for a simple tee or tank. If this were taking place in cooler temps I could also imagine a turtleneck and tights with heeled booties.

Taken in isolation, this is a great shoulder season look that, while not my personal taste, bridges the short hemlines and cute heels of summer with an autumnal palette and layering via the frilly white shirt. It also continues the connection between TTPD and VW. A signature of this era so far has been the corseted look, something that VW played a huge role in modernizing and integrating into their brand house codes.Taylor has worn many VW pieces for this era including while performing songs from TTPD on the Eras Tour.

This is Taylor’s first physical appearance since her trio of shows in Vienna, Austria were cancelled due to planned threats of a terrorist attack. Taylor has not commented thus far on these cancellations. According to reports, this appearance in London was following a party for Eras Tour staff ahead of her final string of shows at Wembley which conclude the European leg of this tour.

While I’m sure this particular two piece was a cheeky Chiefs nod, particularly with certain special guests in the audience when this set debuted during Paris 4, this is indeed a yellow / orange set.

The designer Fausto Puglisi, creative director of Roberto Cavalli, said, “The ombré shading in tones of orange and yellow adds depth to the design.”

One of the signature elements of the Eras Tour costuming has been balancing visually referencing eras past, but refreshing them for the modern day. Her co-ordinating tops and skirts worn for the 1989 section are a great example. The previous quad of beaded ensembles (pink, gree[eeeee]n, orange, and blue) all featured colours and coordination that embodied the polish and shine of the original 1989 era but in a new, fitted skirt silhouette.

With the European leg of the tour, Taylor introduced a new series of 1989 costumes by Fausto Puglisi for Roberto Cavalli that are a shift from the original design concept.

From the ombre shading, the skater skirt fit, the incorporation of the Cavalli big cat emblem at the bust, and the two tone element. To me it all falls much closer to the original costuming of the 1989 Tour with bralettes and metallic skater skirts by Jessica Jones. Many of the new outfits debuted in Paris seem to have undergone what I call a ‘makeunder’ to more closely resemble their original, canonical tour ensembles and not the refreshed 'Taylor Versions’ we’ve seen thus far on the Eras Tour in 2023/24.

While Taylor also has the opportunity to mix/match these coloured sets to create endless new pairing possibilities, based on the sketches my thought is that these two-tone sets were created with the intention of being mismatched, right down to the coordinating Louboutins. And on that note, there is one very famous New Yorker known for mismatching her Louboutins which, if intentional, would be an apt 1989 era reference: the one and only Carrie Bradshaw.

One of the signature elements of the Eras Tour costuming has been how it balances visually referencing eras past but refreshing them for the modern day.

With Version 5 by Fausto Puglisi for Roberto Cavalli we see a lot of changes in tactic. From the ombre shading, the skater skirt fit, the incorporation of the Cavalli big cat emblem at the bust, and the two tone element. To me it all falls much closer to the original costuming of the 1989 Tour with bralettes and metallic skater skirts by Jessica Jones. Unless this is Taylor’s cheeky attempt at an Alvin and the Chipmunks meme replication I’m a bit stumped on the decision to go cotton candy two tone across this entire outfit - mismatched Louboutins included. My only thought is there is one very famous New Yorker known for mismatching her Louboutins which would be an apt 1989 era reference if intentional: Carrie Bradshaw.

Elena Velez Fall 2024 skirt

In authentic Victorian fashion, this black ensemble Taylor wore was actually separates and not a dress. Her waxed denim jacket as previously posted was by Unttld and this ruffled skirt by Elena Valez from her Fall 2024 collection which only debuted this past February.

Elena told Laird Borrelli-Persson for Vogue that her “purest objective as a brand is to really bring a lost Midwestern woman back to the American cultural narrative.” Her desires in this collection were to bring a “more multi-dimensional representation of womanhood, good and bad; one that accepts the difficult, complicated, ugly truth of being a woman as part of the beauty that makes us whole and complete and 360. It’s a character journey that sometimes goes through an antagonist journey, but ultimately resolves itself with meaning and goodwill.” I frankly can’t think of a better ethos to match an album that centers much of its narrative on Taylor exposing wounds many of which she describes as “self-inflicted.”

It’s my suspicion that TTPD is not an album that will be, nor was designed with the intention of, understood or liked by the masses. To my ears (and still overwhelmed brain feeling like I’ve absorbed an encyclopedia of words across these 31 songs) this is an album for ‘Swiftie scholars’ who have the time, space, and devotion to wade through the heaviness of an album this dense and complicated. And that’s okay! When Taylor described this album as one that she needed to make, now that we have it I interpret her meaning as her willfully confronting and hurdling over the elephant in the studio with her. Addressing the “how did it end?” questions that will plague her as soon as possible and structuring it in an album messy, complicated, and strewn with all her most vicious thoughts about the last year of her life in order to get out from under the weighted blanket of those expectations, clearing a path for her next LP to be constructed in clearer air.

Halara ‘Breezeful Pleated Buckle Skirt’ - $40.00

I’m wildly hesitant to post this simply because it’s a brand far out of Taylor’s typical wheelhouse (though it does very much appeal to her signature high/low brand pairing sensibilities when it comes to building an outfit) and because imagining Taylor courting a viral clock app fast fashion piece bewilders me. But after a lot of staring, I feel this might be it - with the caveat that this may be updated in time should it be proven otherwise.

But getting to the skirt as a concept alone. In a sense, this is actually sort of genius concert attire for Taylor at this current phase of her style - combining her renewed love of all mini skirts with a little bit of saucy appeal courtesy of the garter-like thigh buckle but in breezy athleisure fabric and with built-in shorts.

Levi’s ‘Distressed Denim Skirt’ - $110.00

Thanks to a new photo posted by Sabrina we finally get a closer look at some of the discernible details on Taylor’s cute denim skirt she wore to the zoo in Australia last month. Per the distinctive pattern on the back pocket, this is most likely a distressed Levi’s skirt - or in the very least a reworked one repurposing Levi’s denim like EB Denim’s work as pictured in detail shot and retailing here.
