“Fortnight” music video | April 19, 2024

Vintage brooch ℅ Joseph Saidian & Sons jewelry

In another fashion reference to the night of the 2024 Grammys when Taylor wore a Concord watch converted into a choker by Lorraine Schwartz which then seemed to be used as a tipping point between eras, Taylor wore a diamond vintage brooch by #JosephSaidianandSons that was converted into a necklace for this #ClaraBow-esque makeup moment (the thin, drawn-on brows here feel very ‘30s).

Taylor previously wore one of their vintage bracelets at the 2023 MTV VMAs.

Vintage ‘Urban Lapel Jacket’

Taylor was spotted out to dinner this week in a look that, to my eye, wouldn’t be out of place in a top box at Arrowhead Stadium. Though off-duty from her football spectator activities, this outfit has all the hallmarks of Taylor’s sporty aesthetic uniform she leaned on and we became familiar with when cheering at Travis’ games during the 2023-24 NFL season. The ‘fit comprises a Chiefs-appropriate red/white varsity-style jacket on a black base (inclusive of a short denim hemline) and finished off with heeled ankle boots (and I spy a cute Gucci bag - the red strap detail ties in nicely to the jacket).

While I have my mind fixated on TTPD visuals and the aesthetic of this era, a look like this feels like a subconscious signal boost to the public of her present reality. It bears remembering that Tortured Poets is an album a minimum of 18 months in the making - based on Taylor’s admission that conceptualizing for it began almost immediately after she submitted October 2022’s Midnights to her label. I think about that key fifth stage in the process of grief, Acceptance, and how different Taylor’s life must look like now on the other side of the lifeline I’m sure Tortured Poets presented for her creatively and emotionally. And this outfit feels like the very embodiment of those significant life changes and leaps into love she’s made since April 2023.

On a fashionable note regarding the brand: I’ve seen a few questionable retailers with this jacket’s stock info as part of its inventory offerings and all appear questionable to me - hence my choice to mark this piece as ‘vintage’ at least for now until I’m better able to certify the brand in question. Funnily enough, the last time that Taylor made an appearance at this particular strip mall establishment (a charmingly non-descript celebrity favourite in a tucked away, unexpected venue) she was wearing an H&M top that also had retailed in dubious seller markets that I won’t name here but you’re familiar with likely for their fast fashioned foibles).

Vintage ‘Kansas City Chiefs Sweatshirt’ - no longer available

My best guess is this appears to be yet another vintage piece of KC merchandise for Taylor - a similar one pictured here in red. For me, this tactic is fun to see Taylor’s longtime love of vintage fashion (dating back even to 2010-2012) evolve into a way that she can express her recent love of sports (*wink*) while also shopping more sustainably - and often from small businesses.

Vintage Philadelphia Eagles sweatshirt
Chris Stapleton ‘Green 47 Hat’ - $30.00
Catbird NYC x Phoebe Bridgers 'Kissing Skull Friend Charm Set’ - $130.00
Adidas x Ivy Park 'Savage V4 Sneakers’ - $125.00 (sold out)

Taylor was spotted out in New York appearing to be low-key and sporting some of her most charming personal interests as fashion in one very Princess Diana athleisure-driven outfit.

A Philly Eagles sweatshirt denoting her lifelong love of the team and her home state (and a certain lyric in “gold rush”), a Chris Stapleton (fanmade) hat as reference to his guest vocals on “IBYTAM” (and perhaps beyond?), and a friendship necklace from Eras Tour opener Phoebe Bridgers’ collaborative collection with New York-based jeweller Catbird NYC (a collection we already know she’s worn and loved).

Vintage NYU sweater

As I suspected, Taylor’s very cute (and Speak Now-friendly) NYU sweater is vintage. While being papped as an ‘alumni’ in New York City, one must don vintage wares.

Vintage ‘Stone Harbor Sweatshirt’ - not available for purchase

That Russell Athletic logo could have made this sweatshirt belong anywhere as it’s a go-to piece to superimpose localized embroidery on.

My best guess is that Taylor - ever the nostalgic one - felt a pull towards this one for childhood memories spent on the Jersey Shore.

Garland ‘70s Stroller Sweater Set’ - no longer available

One of the most hotly requested items from the Midnights era was Taylor’s outfit worn while cheekily announcing the title of the song “Karma”. I had long suspected that a lot of missing pieces were vintage - which this striped burnout ringer tank is! But not only is it vintage, it’s actually circa the 70s which has been a strong consistent aesthetic theme for Midnights.

Taylor has always loved vintage clothes (hello, RED [2012]). But for me this specificity and attention to detail feels very touching and fun. It reminds me of Taylor’s decision to source and only use instruments for “Carolina” that were made in the time period the book is set in.

It appears Taylor’s festive and on-brand Christmas Cats shirt is a vintage print.

I’ve unfortunately been under the suspicion that the two highly requested (and adorable) sweaters in the “Anti-Hero” music video were vintage. And sadly here’s one of the two confirmed as such!

Circa the ‘80s, this delightful t-shirt features - what else - cats. A twin red version, but with dogs, also used to retail.

The Rolling Stones ‘Dragon Concert T-Shirt’ - $175.00

In a new behind-the-scenes series documenting her songwriting process, Taylor looked adorably stripped down and comfy in this slightly distressed vintage t-shirt. It’s based off a concert design for the Rolling Stones that dates back to the 70s. You can get a recreation of it above.
