Ban Charoen Phon School, Phra Thong Kham District, Korat: 'Small but Powerful' Uses Coding to Develop Systematic Thinking Skills
Education in the 21st century focuses on developing systematic thinking, problem-solving, reasoning, sequencing, and creativity. This emphasis makes learning about coding a priority for the school, allowing students to practice these skills and keep up with the digital age.
Ban Charoen Phon School is located in Map Krat Subdistrict, Phra Thong Kham District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. It is a small school with only 104 students, teaching from kindergarten 2 to grade 6. The executives and teachers recognize the importance of developing coding skills in students, so they joined the Connext ED Education Futures Foundation project and presented the 'Open World of Charoen Phon Coding Project,' which is supported by Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF).
The coding project at Ban Charoen Phon School has organized various training courses for teachers, such as Coding Robotic & IoT and Coding by Micro:bit, enabling teachers to pass on their knowledge to students and develop their design and programming skills, as well as their application in daily life.
Mr. Ek Pinsanthia, the teacher in charge of the Connext ED project, stated that the coding project allows students to experience new learning opportunities and apply the knowledge they gain to various competitions. It enhances the quality of learning that the school has not been able to achieve fully, opens up new perspectives, and encourages students to participate in activities or training related to this area.
Mr. Phuminaphak Sunthonwongsakun, or Nong Leng, a fifth-grade student, expressed his happiness about the school's excellent project. He noted that learning about coding can be applied in daily life, allowing him to share knowledge with friends and younger siblings. He plans to apply it to his family's work related to driving a ten-wheel truck.
Ban Charoen Phon School has participated in the Connext ED Foundation project since 2016, with CPF supporting the catfish farming project, which has been ongoing. In the 2023 academic year, the school received support to implement the coding project, enabling students to learn planning, systematic thinking, and efficient work, which lays the foundation for essential learning skills in the technology era.
The school has created a coding curriculum for students in grades 4-6, which is integrated into the subject of computational science and activities aimed at reducing study time and increasing learning time. This allows students to apply their knowledge from programming and incorporate systematic thinking processes into their daily lives and future work.
