MTL Scholarship EP. 2 Today, let’s get to know Phopphon Thiamphanphong (Don), Portfolio Management Team Manager in the Strategic Planning Department, who received a scholarship to pursue a Master's degree at Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper School of Business) in the USA. . 🤗 Getting to Know Don Hello, my name is Phopphon (Don). I have been working at MTL since 2014 and is currently a team manager. My responsibilities include annual planning, budgeting, corporate project management, and business analysis. I also help implement projects with other departments, aiming to set the right strategic direction and ensure alignment of key action plans for MTL's success. . 👨🏻🎓 What Inspired You to Apply for the "MTL Scholarship"? My inspiration came from a desire to develop myself and bring new knowledge back to the organization. I saw that an MBA would enhance the necessary skills and knowledge to develop the organization. However, the challenges in applying included managing work time, preparing for TOEFL and GMAT exams, and writing applications for each university. . 🗽 How Was the Academic Life and What Challenges Did You Face? Studying at Tepper was a valuable experience. I had the opportunity to meet classmates from various countries with diverse industry backgrounds, exchanging ideas and perspectives, which helped me learn new concepts beneficial for future international work. Tepper emphasizes analyzing business problems using data for decision-making. I learned to use data for analysis and decision-making in complex situations, which is practically applicable. Additionally, I had the chance to intern at AG Insurance, a subsidiary of Ageas in Belgium, during the summer break and went on an exchange program at the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany during my final semester. These experiences were invaluable, providing both knowledge enhancement and unique opportunities. Initially, I had to adjust to the cold weather, with temperatures sometimes dropping below -10 degrees Celsius. I learned to live independently and adapt to the different cultures of my classmates from various backgrounds. . 💼 How is Your Work Life After Graduation? I applied the knowledge and skills gained from my studies to various aspects of my work, such as financial analysis, strategic planning, team management, effective collaboration with colleagues, and communication. Beyond work skills, the experiences from my studies helped me adapt and be more flexible with future challenges. . ⭐ Do You Have Any Message for MTL? Since starting at MTL in 2014, I have felt that MTL provides opportunities for employees to develop themselves both in work and further education. I received support from supervisors who encouraged me to think and act boldly, which was crucial for my growth alongside the organization.
