Roma forward Tammy Abraham was taken off on a buggy during his side’s game against Spezia on Sunday after he suffered a sprain which in turn caused a tear to the ACL in his left knee.

The England international, who joined the Italian club in August 2021, was visibly upset while leaving the pitch in the 80th minute following a collision with opposition defender Ethan Ampadu.

Abraham hyper-extended his knee after landing awkwardly during his club’s final match of the season. He covered his face with his hands while being taken off the field.

The 25-year-old missed seven club games due to a number of different injuries this season, but this latest blow is by far the most serious.

Abraham scored nine goals in 54 games for Roma this campaign, way down on the 27 in 53 he registered in his debut season at the club in 2021-22.

He has played 11 times for England, but hasn’t represented his country since June 2022 and was not named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the two Euro 2024 qualifiers later this month.

Roma beat Spezia 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico to finish sixth in Serie A, which means they have qualified for next season’s Europa League.
