Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Austrian midfielder Florian Grillitsch.

The 26-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Hoffenheim ended this summer.

Grillitsch had been with the Bundesliga club for five years, having joined them from Werder Bremen.

He is a defensive midfielder who can also play at centre-back and this positional flexibility suits the style of Brighton head coach Graham Potter.

Brighton sold defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma to Tottenham Hotspur last month for around £30 million.

The Mali international was in the final year of his contract and showed no inclination to sign a new deal.

Brighton lost a centre-half option in January when Dan Burn moved back to boyhood club Newcastle United for £13 million. Leo Ostigard, who spent last season on loan at Stoke City and Genoa, has also departed for Napoli.

In terms of incomings, Brighton have so far brought in Julio Enciso from Libertad in Paraguay and Simon Adingra from Norwegian side Nordsjaelland.
