The New York Giants and free-agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay have agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal, sources confirmed to The Athletic. The deal is worth a max of $76 million and includes $40 million guaranteed.

Golladay, 27, played only five games for the Lions last season while battling hamstring and hip injuries, but he was a Pro Bowler in 2019, when he caught 65 passes for a career-high 1,190 yards and league-leading 11 touchdowns.

A third-round pick by Detroit in 2017, Golladay has 3,068 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns through four seasons.

NFL free agency updated Big Board: Trai Turner, Richard Sherman and the top unsigned players

How he fits

David Lombardi, NFL staff writer: The 6-foot-4, 214-pound Golladay is a bona fide No. 1 wide receiver. He's 27 years old, posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019 and is one of the top contested-catch targets in the league. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who led the NFL in passer rating on throws that traveled more than 20 yards downfield in 2020, should benefit greatly from Golladay's presence.

Golladay played only five games in 2020 with a hip flexor strain, so the Giants had to make sure that wouldn't be a concern moving forward.

Fantasy implications

Jake Ciely, fantasy football writer: While the Giants desperately needed a No. 1 receiver, this isn’t the best landing spot for Golladay’s fantasy value. Matthew Stafford has been better than Jones in all important areas for Golladay's ability and upside (2019-20). Click here for a full breakdown of stats.

Golladay is the no-doubt No. 1 receiver for the Giants, but where he was a WR1 in 2019 with 65/1190/11 on 116 targets, a line of 60/1000/8 on 110 targets is more reasonable with Jones. Unfortunately, in fantasy, that would equate to WR23 and 24 the past two seasons … quite the drop (and disappointment) from Golladay’s ceiling and potential.
