The Carolina Panthers agreed to a one-year deal Wednesday with free agent linebacker Haason Reddick, a source confirmed to The Athletic.

Reddick played his first four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, finishing last season with a career-best 12.5 sacks, which tied for fourth in the NFL. He also recorded 15 tackles for loss. In his first three NFL seasons combined, Reddick had 7.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.

Why was the market so cool on him after last season

Joe Person, Panthers beat writer: As good as Reddick’s 2020 season was with Arizona, it was his first year of real production after three so-so years in which he combined for 7.5 sacks. Plus, many teams struggle with where and how to play Reddick because of his 6-foot-1, 235-pound frame, which is far from the prototypical size for NFL edge rushers. So Reddick decided to bet on himself with a coach he knows well (Panthers coach Matt Rhule coached Reddick at Temple University) and see if he can parlay it into a lucrative deal next year when the salary cap should increase substantially.
