Britney Spears' Ex Sam Asghari Wants Biopic To 'Do Justice By Her Legacy'

Actor Sam Asghari wants the upcoming Britney Spears biopic to be done with her approval.

While promoting his new film "Jackpot," the 30-year-old actor talked about his ex-wife and the upcoming movie about her life and career.

On Tuesday, August 13, Sam Asghari walked the red carpet to promote his new film "Jackpot," which will become available to stream on Prime Video on August 15. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the former personal trainer was asked for his thoughts on the Britney Spears biopic, which will be based on her best-selling memoir "The Woman In Me."

"I just hope that they have her approval and everything, and they do justice by her legacy, because it's a really strong one," he said. When asked if he had any idea what actor would star him in the biopic, Sam played coy, admitting, "I'm really just focusing on my craft."

On August 1, the "Toxic" singer teased the news with her fans, writing, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned."

Shortly after, Universal Pictures announced that they had purchased the rights to Britney Spears' 2023 memoir "The Woman In Me" after a "highly competitive auction." According to the press release, "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu will helm the film, although no actress has been cast in the starring role of Britney Spears just yet.

Shortly after their breakup, the actor told People magazine that he doesn't regret the time spent with his ex, who he began dating after they met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016. “It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on,” he said shortly after the couple had finalized their divorce.

"I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point, they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other," he continued. “That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life."

Ahead of his 30th birthday, the “Special Ops: Lioness” actor told People magazine that he wants to focus on building his career and maintaining a “healthy lifestyle” as he looks ahead to his future.

“I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school. But every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he says. “And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that's something that I'm just super excited to just be fulfilled with.”

He also clarified that he is not currently dating and that the only woman in his life at the moment is his dog, Porsha.

“I always have the most positive mindset about life. My experiences in life have shaped me into the man I am today. I will continue growing. I come from a place where we celebrate our past,” he said. “I look back fondly. My past was a blessing and beautiful.”

After tying the knot in June 2022, Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023 citing "irreconcilable differences" according to court documents obtained by The Blast. The month after he filed for divorce, the "Oops!... I Did It Again" singer was seen out and about with her former housekeeper, Paul Richard Soliz, who was reportedly fired after her management team learned about his criminal history.

Earlier this month, TMZ published photos of Britney spending time at a Sky Zone in Thousand Oaks, California, with her boyfriend and his children. The photos were taken about a month after the pop star declared that she was "single as f-ck." She has since deleted the post, leading many to suspect that the two are back together.
