Meet The TCI Staff

Robert MacRae is the owner of The Clemson Insider. He serves as publisher and recruiting editor for the site. MacRae started TCI in March of 2009 and has covered Clemson recruiting since 2003. He graduated from Clemson University in 1987.

Gavin Oliver joined the TCI staff in May of 2016. Oliver, whose father, Greg, has been a respected journalist in the Upstate of South Carolina for many years, joined The Clemson Insider Staff as full-time staff writer and desk editor. Oliver, who graduated from Clemson University, is also a recruiting writer for TCI as well as helps our staff cover the ins and outs of the Clemson football, basketball and baseball programs. Before joining TCI, Oliver worked as a writer for the Journal in Seneca, S.C. from 2012-’16. He covered high school sporting events, including high school football, as well as Clemson football, basketball and baseball games. Oliver was also a correspondent for IPTAY Media from 2012-’15, as he wrote feature stories covering all the sports at Clemson in Orange: The Experience the Magazine, plus he was a regular contributor for IPTAY’s Web site, My Orange Update.com. In 2014, Oliver worked as an intern and correspondent for Tiger Illustrated.com. At Tiger Illustrated, Oliver wrote feature stories, game previews, practice notes and then game day questions and answer sessions with Clemson’s three coordinators. In 2015, Oliver had an internship with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey team in Greenville, S.C. He worked in the public relations office there as he was mostly in charge of writing game recaps.

Bart Boatwright joined the TCI staff in February of 2019. He is a 1990 graduate of Ohio University’s School of Visual Communications and is TCI’s Digital Editor. Boatwright is an award-winning photojournalist, who, before joining TCI, worked as a photographer at the Greenville News since 1990. During his 28 years in the newspaper business he covered a wide variety of sporting events including a Super Bowl, World Series, Final Four, and what he considers the highlight of his carrier, Clemson’s National Championship runs in 2016 and 2018. Boatwright, who is a native of Belton, S.C., has been around Clemson athletics for most of his life, and photographed his first Clemson game in 1983 while still in high school.

Will Vandervort first joined the TCI staff in August of 2012. He held the position of Senior Writer for almost 10 years before leaving in December of 2021. He returned in August of 2023, as TCI’s Senior Writer. Vandervort is in his 21st season covering Clemson Athletics. Since 2004, he has followed and documented the happenings of Clemson Athletics for several media organizations. During his time in Clemson, he has published three books on Clemson Athletics, including his best-selling book the Hidden History of Clemson Football. Over the last three years, Vandervort has teamed up with former Clemson Tigers and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Levon Kirkland to produce a podcast called Bleav in Clemson Football. Their podcast has become one of the most popular podcasts in the Bleav Network. Prior to coming to Clemson to cover the Tigers, Vandervort worked at several newspapers in South Georgia and South Carolina. During his time in the newspaper industry, Vandervort won several awards in sports writing, columns, and special sections. During his 27-year career, Vandervort has had the opportunity to cover some of the biggest events in sports, including the NFL Playoffs, NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the College World Series, the College Football Playoff and College Football National Championship Games.

Jason Priester has been covering Clemson Athletics and recruiting since 2018. A baseball enthusiast, Priester started covering Clemson Baseball in 2018 for Shakin’ The Southland. He then joined the All Clemson Tigers staff in December of 2019. While working for All Clemson Tigers Priester helped cover the day-to-day happenings of Clemson Football, Men’s Basketball and Baseball. He was also in charge of recruiting for the website. Besides, his duties for TCI, Priester has his own podcast called All Things Clemson! It is one of the more popular podcast about Clemson Athletics and Recruiting on YouTube and Facebook.
