As the crisp air of Fall begins to settle in, it’s the perfect time to refresh your home with cozy decor. But instead of filling your space with overtly “Autumn!” items like signs and and an abundance of pumpkins, why not embrace the concept of “quiet luxury”? This approach to decorating combines the elegance of modern cottage style with subtle, sophisticated touches that bring Fall into your home in a more refined way. In this post, I’ll walk you through how I decorated my home for Fall, all while staying budget-friendly and incorporating some easy DIYs. Welcome to my quiet luxury Fall Decor!

What is Quiet Luxury?

“Quiet luxury” is a term that designers have been embracing over the past couple of years to describe a more simplistic, yet sophisticated approach to home decor. This style is characterized by a focus on neutral colors, understated elegance, and an abundance of texture. Instead of flashy or overly decorative elements, the quiet luxury trend emphasizes quality and comfort. It focuses on creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The idea of the quiet luxury interior design trend is to curate a space that feels luxurious without being overdone. It’s where every piece is thoughtfully chosen for its ability to contribute to the overall sense of calm and refinement. It’s about subtlety, using soft fabrics, textured throws, and natural high-quality materials to craft a space that feels timeless and effortlessly chic.

Cozy Kitchen Updates with Subtle Fall Vibes

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and it’s a great place to start when refreshing your decor for Fall. I began by creating a focal point on my kitchen island, which features the IKEA EKBACKEN marble look countertops that have become a staple in my home.

First, I added a candle in a soft, cozy scent. Candles are a fantastic way to introduce warmth and coziness to any space. By choosing ones with beautiful scents, you can elevate the look without spending a lot of money. Next, I placed a vase filled with faux eucalyptus stems on the center of the island. This is a simple, budget-friendly DIY that brings in a natural element, tying the space to the season without overwhelming it. I also added a white faux pumpkin from Dollar Tree to the centerpiece.

To complete the quiet luxury home feel, I draped one of my linen towels from Cozy Prairie Linens Co. near the arrangement. The subtle stripe in the towel add just the right amount of seasonal flair, making the kitchen feel both luxurious and inviting.

Budget Tip:

One quick and affordable way to update your kitchen for Fall is to swap out your everyday towels for ones in seasonal tones. Look for linens in rich, earthy colors that evoke the essence of autumn, but still maintain a neutral palette. This small change can make a big difference in the overall feel of your space.

Breakfast Nook: Simple Elegance with Natural Elements

The breakfast nook is where we start our mornings, so I wanted to keep this space serene and welcoming. For this area, I focused on bringing in natural accents that capture the essence of fall without being too literal. I began by laying down a neutral table runner (I used a scarf from Amazon!) that instantly warmed up the space. A table runner is an easy way to add texture and depth to a table without needing to invest in a full tablecloth.

For the centerpiece, I chose a simple vase filled with goldenrod from our yard. Flowers and grasses from your yard are a fantastic budget-friendly option for quiet luxury Fall decor. Not only are they affordable, but they also bring a natural, earthy feel to your home. The cheerful tones of the golden rod tie in nicely to the modern cottage aesthetic. They add so much warmth and texture without overpowering the space.

On my DIY breakfast nook bench, I added an abundance of throw pillows in neutral hues. Classic like florals, plaids and stripes keep the space feeling vintage inspired and cozy. I’m loving experimenting with black & brown tones together. I think the browns in the pillows and dining table are a nice mix with the black and white in my breakfast nook curtains. Mixing cool with warm tones is a simple way to make a neutral color palette more interesting.

DIY Idea:

Create your own DIY curtains with pleater tape to add pattern and comfort to your home for Fall. Consider using a vintage inspired floral pattern for a cozy cottage look. You can find my curtain tutorial right here!

Living Room: Layering Textures for a Cozy Retreat

In the living room, I focused on creating a space that feels cozy and inviting. I wanted something perfect for those cooler fall evenings! The key here is layering textures to achieve that “quiet luxury style”. I started by updating the throw pillows on the couch. Instead of opting for bright, seasonal patterns, I chose pillows in soft, neutral tones with varying textures—woven & boucle. This mix of materials adds depth and interest to the space, making it feel both luxurious and comfortable.

Next, I draped a chunky knit throw blanket from Cozy Prairie Linens Co. over the sofa. This blanket is not only incredibly soft, but its thick, textured weave adds a touch of warmth that’s perfect for Fall. It’s the kind of piece that reminds you of cozy Fall sweaters and makes you want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea.

One of my favorite budget-friendly tips for decorating the living room is to shop your own home. I used some decor I had in other space of my home in my living room decor this season. Mixing and matching items you already own can give your space a fresh new look without spending any extra money.

I added some soft, neutral throw pillows to my faux leather chairs and some simple decor to my coffee table to complete my quiet luxury living room. My rustic wood coffee table and faux leather chair pair are classics that have stood the test of time. They’re easy to change up each season with accessories.

Budget Tip:

Before buying new decor, take a look around your home and see what items you can repurpose or rearrange. Sometimes, simply moving a throw pillow from one room to another can give your space a whole new feel.

Primary Bedroom: Creating a Cozy Sanctuary

As we move into the primary bedroom, the goal is to create a sanctuary that feels cozy and restful—a perfect retreat as the days grow shorter and cooler. I started with my classic Linen Cotton Blend Sheets & Duvet Set in warm white from Cozy Prairie Linens Co. The neutral tone of the duvet is ideal for achieving that modern cottage look, and it’s incredibly soft, making it perfect for snuggling up on chilly nights.

To add even more comfort and style, I layered on some euro pillows in front of our sleeping pillows, and a beautiful accent pillow in shades of soft beige. By sticking to a neutral palette, I was able to create a cohesive look that feels luxurious without being overwhelming. The key here is to focus on quality and comfort, choosing pieces that add warmth and texture to the space.

At the foot of the bed I added a fluffy quilt and a sheepskin wool rug for more texture and dimension. Layering a couple of different blankets on your bed will instantly make it look cozy and inviting.

On the nightstands, I opted for simplicity with some faux stems, a wooden bowl, and some Fall themed candles. Simple and cozy is the name of the game here!

DIY Idea:

If you’re looking to add a personal touch to your bedding, consider making your own throw pillows. You can easily sew simple pillow covers using fabric in your favorite textures and tones, allowing you to customize the look of your bed without spending a lot of money. Here are my favourite DIY throw pillow tutorials for every skill level.
