Following the release of the Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, significant changes have occurred. The report, which highlighted serious issues of harassment and abuse towards women professionals, has led to two prominent resignations. A new committee panel is expected to take charge soon hoping for the ongoing issue to end soon.
It is worth mentioning that Mohanlal was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi due to respiratory issues a few days back and he was discharged on August 18.
In the wake of numerous accusations and serious revelations, many of the film industry's top stars have chosen to remain silent. However, several celebrities including Prithviraj and Tovino Thomas have spoken out, and a steady stream of allegations against well-known figures has shocked the entire industry. Earlier, director Ranjith stepped down from his role at a state-run film academy, and actor Siddique resigned from his post at AMMA.
In response to growing calls for action against the alleged offenders in the industry, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held an urgent meeting with senior police officials. The outcome of this meeting was the formation of a seven-member special team tasked with investigating the reported abuses faced by women actors.
