Scottie Scheffler on viral video mocking Louisville officerBack to video
The World No. 1 golfer was asked about the viral video on Tuesday at Pinehurst.
“Yeah, it’s kind of hard not to laugh about the guy who did that. But I didn’t see any videos,” Scheffler said. “Xander (Schauffele) did tell me about it yesterday. He got a pretty good kick out of it.”
Scheffler was famously arrested last month outside of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville ahead of the second round. The golfer was trying to avoid a traffic delay caused by a fatal accident so he could make his Friday morning tee time.
Officer Bryan Gillis reportedly had his hand on the car and says he was dragged to the ground when Scheffler attempted to continue driving to the course. The Masters champ faced four charges, including assaulting a police officer, before the attorney’s office dropped the case.
The video making the rounds shows a golfer apparently rolling into a tournament at the Member-Guest tournament at Wildwood Country Club in Louisville with a dummy dressed in a police outfit being dragged beside the driver’s door, while the theme from the telvision show C.O.P.S. plays.

“I don’t love re-living it, but sometimes being able to laugh about it is a good skill, too,” Scheffler said. “When they make jokes, it’s definitely hard not to laugh, especially with some of my good buddies, they’re pretty funny with it.”
Scheffler finished the PGA Championship in eighth place, ending his chance at golf’s nearly impossible single season grand slam. He’s the heavy favourite this week at Pinehurst No. 2.
“I think that’s part of just having good friends. If all they did was make fun of me, it would be different. It wouldn’t be as fun. But they’re great guys, and they’re great friends. So you’ve got to be able to look in the mirror and laugh at yourself.”
