Maggie Q’s Bosch: Legacy Spinoff Adds Castle, Magnum P.I., All Rise and Teen Wolf Vets
Detective Renee Ballard has put herself together a cold case-cracking team.
Prime Video’s allegedly-still-untitled, Maggie Q-led Bosch: Legacy spinoff has added four more series regualrs, including Castle alum Michael Mosley and Magnum P.I. vet Amy Hill.
Ordered to series last November, the new entry in the Bosch universe finds Detective Ballard “running the LAPD’s new cold case division — a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city.
“Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination,” the synopsis continues. “When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”
Previously cast were John Carroll Lynch (Big Sky, American Horror Story) as Thomas Laffont, Renee’s former partner who un-retires to help her run the Cold Case Department, and Courtney Taylor (Abbott Elementary, Insecure) as Samira Parker, a wary ex-cop who returns to the force at her former mentor Ballard’s behest.
New to the mix, our sister site Deadline reports, is Mosley as Ted, a reserve officer who has been assigned to cold cases to keep an eye on Ballard, and Hill as Tutu, Ballard’s spunky grandma.
The other new series regulars are Rebecca Field (All Rise) as Colleen, an enthusiastic and eccentric volunteer, and Victoria Moroles (Teen Wolf) as Martina, a savvy legal intern.
Maggie Q will make her debut as Ballard, a character from Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels, in the Season 3 finale of Prime Video‘s Bosch: Legacy, which is still awaiting a premiere date but will be based on Connelly’s novels Desert Star (from 2022) and The Black Ice (1993).

Will the third season of Bosch: Legacy be on FreeVee?
I think Legacy has moved to Prime but I may be wrong… Watching on FREEVEE wasn’t bad… limited commercials…
Is Thomas Laffont essentially the Bosch part from the books?
Titus Welliver is still supposed to appear in this as Harry Bosch, so I don’t think it’s a straight 1-for-1 replacement.
But it does read like he’s taking on a lot of the heavy lifting that Bosch handled in the Connelly books, maybe because of Welliver’s limited availability or maybe because Bosch’s story at the moment in “Bosch: Legacy” doesn’t line up well with where this needed the character to be.
Sounds very promising.
I’ve always enjoyed Maggie Q in things she’s done that I’ve seen–Mission Impossible, Nikita, Designated Survivor (although they split her part out so that it often felt like an entirely different show, it was weird), even when she voiced Wonder Woman in Young Justice. Will definitely give this a try if it ever appears on a platform I can access or justify paying for.
