The Bachelor Grant Ellis Season 29

Grant Ellis just went from snubbed Bachelorette suitor to Bachelor leading man in a matter of minutes.

The 30-year-old New Jersey native, whose time as a contestant on Jenn Tran’s current Bachelorette season was cut short on Monday, has since been named the star of The Bachelor‘s upcoming 29th season, TVLine has learned. This makes Ellis the series’ second-ever Black Bachelor, following Matt James in Season 25.

“A self-proclaimed mama’s boy, Ellis’ infectious smile and unwavering positivity instantly brightens every room he enters,” per ABC‘s official description of their new star. “The former pro basketball player is passionate about his career as a day trader, but when he’s not immersed in the fast-paced world of finance, you can find him cheering on the Lakers, hitting strikes at the bowling alley, or belting out tunes at karaoke nights.”

As he steps into the role of The Bachelor, “Ellis is eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure, and genuine connections. He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.”

ABC is encouraging interested parties to apply for Ellis’ season, which has not been fully cast:

The Bachelor will return to ABC for Season 29 sometime in 2025. In the meantime, The Bachelorette currently airs Mondays at 8/7c, while the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelorette (starring Joan Vassos) premieres Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8 pm.
