Michael Sheen’s Prince Andrew Is Caught in A Very Royal Scandal — Watch Trailer for Amazon Miniseries

A Very Royal Scandal is brought to light, live on TV, in the first trailer (above) and photos (below) for Prime Video‘s upcoming miniseries about BBC journalist Emily Maitlis’ iconic on-air grilling of Prince Andrew.

“One night. One hour. One interview that sent shockwaves around the globe,” reads the official synopsis for the series, which is based on the 2019 interview between Emily Maitlis (played by Luther‘s Ruth Wilson) and Prince Andrew (Good Omens‘ Michael Sheen) over the scandalous accusations he faced regarding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre.

Prince Andrew hoped to use the interview to answer questions about his association with Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in prison months prior, and address allegations about his involvement with sexually trafficked women including the aforementioned Giuffre. How Prince Andrew wound up coming off in the sitdown, however, was described by some as “nuclear explosion-level bad.” Not long after, he announced that he had “asked Her Majesty if I can step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”

Over three episodes that aim to demonstrate the power of journalism through a pivotal moment in British history, A Very Royal Scandal follows the actions of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself, “and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.”

All three episodes will be released Thursday, Sept. 19 (in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand).

Along with Sheen and Wilson, the series stars Joanna Scanlan (The Larkins) as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings (The Crown) as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke (Smother) as Stewart Maclean and Claire Rushbrook (Wilderness) as Sarah Ferguson.
