It’s a g’day to be a fan of NCIS: Sydney.
The well-watched NCIS franchise’s first international offshoot, which is set and films in Sydney, Australia, has been renewed for Season 2 on CBS, TVLine has learned.
Production on Season 2 will begin in the next few months (during what we yanks call “spring”).
The renewal news comes two months after NCIS: Sydney aired its freshman finale Stateside, and corresponds with a Season 2 order placed today by Paramount+ Australia.
It also means that the NCIS franchise is on the verge of being five series strong, with the mothership and NCIS: Hawai’i midway through their current seasons and CBS’ NCIS: Origins (“Young Gibbs”) and Paramount+’s Tony/Ziva spinoffs both ordered to series.
The 1,000th overall NCIS franchise episode will air Monday, April 15, as an episode of NCIS proper.
Season 1 of NCIS: Sydney averaged 6.5 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback). At midseason, it tied Survivor as CBS’ most-watched entertainment program of this slightly strange, strikes-delayed TV season (and trailed only the network’s 60 Minutes in total audience). It also emerged as the most-watched freshman show on any network last fall.
Season 2 will premiere on CBS during the 2024-25 TV season; an exact date has not yet been set.
“We’re beyond stoked with the response to the first season of the show, both in Australia and around the world, and that the team at NCIS: Sydney is returning for a second season,” showrunner Morgan O’Neill said in a statement. “We’re especially thrilled to invite our audience deeper into the lives of our core team, peeling back the layers to find out what really makes them tick. This will be even more important as we see the bonds of the new family tested to breaking point in the face of a much more potent enemy looming on the horizon….”
Also streaming/airing in Australia on Paramount+ and Network 10, NCIS: Sydney follows a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS Agents and Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers as they are grafted into a multi-national task force, to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.
The merged team is led by NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey, played by DC’s Legends of Tomorrow alum Olivia Swann, and her 2IC AFP counterpart, Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey, played by Todd Lasance (Spartacus: War of the Damned).
The cast also includes Sean Sagar (Fate: The Winx Saga) as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle (Bad Behaviour) as AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel (Neighbours) as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson, and William McInnes (Blue Heelers) as AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose.

YAY, this is GREAT NEWS!!!!!
Thank You!!!!
This show is total crap. Relegate it to Paramount+ with the Tony and Ziva spin-off airing on CBS instead.
You are allowed to not actually watch something if you don’t like it…
You’re not require to watch anything, r3tard.
I have never watched any of the other NCIS shows but I did this. While the female lead can be a bit much, I found the show grew as season one progressed. My favorite is the quirky lab girl. Looking forward to season two.
I agree with you on the female lead……should have been someone else who can actually do an American accent without having to grit her teeth. One possibility for the “main” character could have been Alex O’Loughlin since he is Australian but can speak with a very good American accent. He could have even played McGarrett since his character on Hawaii Five-O was in the navy.
I agree, the series got better with each episode
Maybe hire actual American actors to play American roles next year, some of the Australians cast for the bit parts really can’t do American accents!
It is an Australian produced show, pretty expensive to fly an American actor to Australia for a bit part.
They hired two British actors to play the American regulars on the show.
I loved this show and it isn’t just because I am Australian and this show is made here. It’s got quite interesting stories and a great cast and I love seeing William McInnes on TV
Happy to hear! I really like this one
That’s great news!
I kind of liked it. For something that wasn’t even suppose to air in the States initially, it was a perfectly fine filler show. The actors in this series grew on me and it did have the feel of NCIS. I’ll watch season 2 next season.
I’m SOO happy that NCIS: Sydney is coming back! I really like it. The cast work well together.
Hooray!! This is wonderful news. This show was a welcome treat during the TV strike drought. I’m glad that it has received a season 2. : )
I enjoyed NCIS: Sydney. Congrats to the cast and crew on earning a season/series 2.
Took the powers that be long enough to make a ‘no brainer’ decision… 🤦♀️ Yes!! Woo hoo!! Looking forward to season 2!! Especially after that dang cliffhanger!!
👏👏👏👏👏
To be honest it took a number of episodes but by the end of the season it matured nicely
Not crazy about Olivia but the rest of the cast works well
Incredible news! i know not everyone liked it, but as a fan i honestly thought the series got better with each episode. fingers crossed with can get a crossover with the next season
How many episodes will be season 2 ?
Probably way less than the mothership. Most Aussie, Kiwi and UK shows have short series. I’m watching one that is 3 episodes. Usually 6, 8 or 10.
That is not how you use ‘g’day’. LOL.
Yep, pretty sure the ‘Oz’ for ‘spring’ is ‘spring’ too – though of course it will actually be autumn in Australia at the time.
Like the show. Can’t stand Olivia. Didn’t like her on Legends either. Everyone else gels as a cast. Wish they would replace her.
Olivia is the best part of the show for me. I love seeing talented gorgeous women take lead roles.
Good news. The first season was pretty good. I especially like the forensic pathologist dude….
I love all the NCIS procedural shows
