President Biden Says ‘There Is No Place in America For This Kind of Violence’ After Shots Fired at Trump Rally

President Joe Biden spoke before the press Saturday evening after shots were fired at a Donald Trump rally earlier that day.

Former president Trump was rushed off stage after a weapon was fired at a campaign event in Butler, Pa. His right ear appeared to be grazed as he was escorted away by Secret Service.

Biden told the press shortly at 8 pm ET that Trump was with doctors and “doing well.” His comments were in line with what Trump spokesman Steven Cheung told the The New York Times soon after the incident — that the former president was “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.” Secret Service also had confirmed that “the former President is safe.”

Biden then went on to condemn the horrific events that transpired.

“Look, there’s no place in America for this kind of violence,” he declared. “It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country.

“We cannot allow for this to be happening,” Biden continued. “We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this.”

According to the Associated Press, the suspected shooter — identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa. — “was engaged by members of the U.S. Secret Service counterassault team and killed.” A rally attendee is also dead, and two other attendees were critically injured.

The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination.
