♻️ In order to reuse the waste, the waste needs to be sorted first. Yet, the staff of the routing garbage trucks hassling between alley to alley rarely have time to double-check. As a result, most of the recycling plants require manual labors and the machines using magnets, gravity, and puffs of air, but the sortings aren’t always accurate. Now, with the help of AI, the problem can be solved!!🌟 In 2023, a recycling plant was established in New Taipei City. Not like usual one, this plant features its AI-driven sorting system with up to 97% of accuracy. In the E1S3 of #Delta podcast “Climate Battle in Taiwan”, we’ve invited the senior specialist from Environmental Protection Department of New Taipei City and the project manager of the Da Fon Environmental Technology to share with us: 1️⃣ The training process of waste-sorting robot kit 🦾 2️⃣ The differences between intelligent waste sorting and automated sorting 3️⃣ With the AI-driven waste sorting machines, does it mean we no longer need to sort the recycles ourselves? 🌬️ AI is revolutionizing air quality monitoring. The conventional air quality assessments which heavily rely on atmospheric physics and chemistry often encounter lack of available data due to limited number of monitoring station. Yet, with #GeoAI, this isn’t a problem anymore. In E7S2 of "Climate Battle in Taiwan” Podcast, the professor of National Cheng Kung University, Chi-Da Wu would share with us how GeoAI helps to forecast air pollution with high precision, detects air pollution source without monitoring stations and finds out the link between suicide rate and urban green space. 🔥 Taipei may be the hottest city in Taiwan but its temperature isn’t the fastest-rising one. Taoyuan is. As the urban heat island in Taipei Greater Area and Taoyuan are growing now which could make hotspots expand and connect together and cause cities even more difficult to dissipate the heat. What can we do to mitigate the effect and prevent the hotspots from enlarging? In the E7S2 of #Delta Podcast, the climate expert and professor of National Cheng Kung University, Tzu-ping Lin is invited to share with us: 1️⃣ What are the strategies to deal with expanding heat island hotspots? 2️⃣ What are the impacts of the heat island effect on human health? 3️⃣ How does rising temperature affect our energy consumption? 🏗️ According to UNEP, the buildings and construction sector accounts for about 40% of global GHG emissions. With the rapid urbanization, the GHG emission is expected to double by 2050 unless urgent action is taken. Yet, the building isn’t only about decarbonization. It is also about the circular economy. Following this Season Topic “Built Environment”, in Episode 3 of #Delta podcast, we invited the practitioner from Taiwan Construction Research Institute to share with us: 1️⃣ How to design buildings on a circular economy? 2️⃣ Taiwan’s challenges of lacking databases in the Built-environment. 3️⃣ Is Buildings-As-Materials-Banks (BAMB) mandatory for reducing embodied carbon? Last weekend (on 1st June) Delta volunteers gathered at Chaojing Coral Conservation Center to use CoralWatch and check coral health! They learned to identify coral color, classify coral species, and upload data. After holding the course, we expect our volunteers to carry out regular monitoring and assist more works in restoration! #WorldReefDay
