🌊 The Future is Now: Unlocking Wave Energy for a Sustainable Taiwan 🌊 Taiwan is currently facing a significant energy crisis as it prepares to phase out nuclear energy by 2025. With offshore wind and solar power developments lagging behind original targets, this situation is impacting foreign companies' confidence in Taiwan’s energy landscape. While the government is actively exploring alternative renewable energy sources like hydrogen and geothermal, technical and regulatory hurdles remain to overcome. As the chairman of Lian Tat Company (LTC), a 65-year-old marine engineering firm, I believe in the potential of wave energy as a viable solution. Last year, we signed a joint venture with Israel's Eco Wave Power to actively promote wave energy in Taiwan. This October, at Energy Taiwan & Net-Zero Taiwan, we are excited to welcome Inna Braverman, CEO of Eco Wave Power, for a keynote speech. Many players in the renewable energy sector are curious about the possibilities that wave energy presents. We look forward to gaining deeper insights from Inna's expertise and exploring how we can leverage wave energy to secure a sustainable energy future for Taiwan. Join us in this crucial conversation about the future of renewable energy! 💡 CY Huang Chairman at Lian Tat Company (https://lnkd.in/g2pJwMn) President at FCC Partners Asia More info at https://lnkd.in/gtGrgG6 https://lnkd.in/gYfv8_hR #RenewableEnergy #WaveEnergy #Sustainability #EnergyTaiwan #LianTatCompany #EcoWavePower

🌍 Unlocking Potential: Da Nang's Role in the Semiconductor Revolution 🌍 Last week, I attended a semiconductor forum in the vibrant city of Da Nang, Vietnam. Known for its beautiful beaches and rapid development, Da Nang is emerging as a key player in the semiconductor industry. I’m excited to share that Da Nang has recently been designated as Vietnam's first free trade zone and recognized as a critical hub for semiconductor development. This decision reflects the efficiency of local government officials and the impressive organization of the forum, which rivaled the conferences I’ve attended in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Da Nang's appeal goes beyond its industrial potential; it’s an international city that combines a rich tourism history with a welcoming atmosphere for foreigners—factors that are essential for fostering a thriving semiconductor ecosystem. During the forum, I emphasized the importance of developing human resources, as Vietnam aims to train 50,000 semiconductor-related engineers by 2030. The groundwork is already being laid, and I believe Da Nang will play a vital role in this initiative. Exciting times ahead for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam! 🚀 CY Huang President at FCC Partners Asia #Semiconductors #DaNang #Vietnam #FreeTradeZone #Innovation #HumanResources #FCCPartnersAsia

🌟 Unlocking Potential: The Next Wave of Venture Capital in Taiwan 🌟 Yesterday marked a significant milestone as Taiwan celebrated the 40th anniversary of its venture capital industry. Did you know Taiwan was the first in Asia to establish a venture capital firm? Acer paved the way in 1984 by launching Taiwan's first venture capital firm. Fast forward to 1986, as a summer intern at Stanford Graduate School of Business, I assisted the U.S.-based investment bank Hambrect & Quist in setting up H&Q Asia, Taiwan's first foreign-funded venture capital firm. At one point, Taiwan boasted over 200 venture capital firms! However, in recent years, we've seen a decline in the number of VCs for several reasons: 1️⃣ Strict insurance regulations make it challenging to attract capital. 2️⃣ Investors often exhibit short-sightedness, focusing solely on pre-IPO deals. 3️⃣ Taiwan's historical focus on hardware has left a software and e-commerce expertise gap. 4️⃣ Emerging markets like China are becoming competitive alternatives. Despite these challenges, there's a silver lining! In response to the global AI trend, Taiwan is experiencing a resurgence of investment opportunities in semiconductors, AI, and IoT sectors. Moreover, the rise of family offices has contributed to a fresh influx of venture capital. Taiwan is positioned for growth, and I'm excited to be part of this transformative journey! At FCC Partners, we have received growing interest from Taiwanese firms eager to acquire small tech companies in Eastern Europe, Germany, and Southeast Asia. If your business operates in Gen-AI applications or is part of the semiconductor supply chain, let's connect and explore potential opportunities together! CY Huang President at FCC Partners Asia

🚨 Rescue Mission: How Intel Can Reclaim Its Position in the Chip Market 🚨 Intel Corporation has enlisted Morgan Stanley to help navigate potential challenges from activist shareholders following a shocking decline in its stock price—down by a third due to disappointing recent results. In light of these developments, I believe restructuring may be critical for Intel’s recovery: 1️⃣ Spin-Off Foundry Division: The most effective path forward could involve spinning off Intel's foundry division and establishing a new holding company. This move could provide better focus and flexibility in operations. 2️⃣ Government Involvement: The U.S. government has a vital role to play. By creating a special-purpose company to acquire a stake in TSMC (which has a market cap of under $900 billion), the government could become a significant shareholder, potentially investing around $90 billion—mostly financed through government-backed loans. 3️⃣ Future Collaborations: Looking ahead, Intel's foundry division could merge with TSMC's investment arm and strategically acquire GlobalFoundries when market conditions are favorable, positioning itself as a leader in the U.S. foundry space. 4️⃣ Precedents Exist: History shows similar successful strategies. AMD previously spun off its foundry division, sold it to a sovereign fund, and later acquired Singapore's Chartered Semiconductor. Another example includes Singapore Telecom's initial plans to merge with Hong Kong Telecom, which led to the formation of PCCW. In summary, for the U.S. government to safeguard this critical asset, intervention in Intel's reorganization may be necessary. The future of American semiconductor manufacturing could depend on these strategic decisions. 📢 Hostile Takeovers and Strategic Mergers: The Next Chapter in Taiwan Finance 📢 Shin Kong Financial Holdings and Taishin Financial Holdings are set to discuss a potential merger, while CTBC Bank is moving to acquire a stake in SKF through an open offer. This surge in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) highlights the dynamic nature of Taiwan's financial industry. Here are my critical observations on this development: 1️⃣ The merger between Taishin and SKF should have occurred earlier. However, unfavorable share swap terms may have deterred Taishin from proceeding, while CTBC appears willing to pay a premium, potentially benefiting SKF's shareholders. 2️⃣ Leadership Changes: CTBC's Chairman, Jeffrey Koo Jr., has returned after a 17-year absence, aiming to position CTBC as Taiwan's leading financial holding company. 3️⃣ With the number of financial institutions in Taiwan, consolidation is not only likely but necessary for a more robust industry. 4️⃣ Global Ambitions: Taiwan must integrate its financial holdings to create international players similar to Singapore's DBS, enhancing its global competitiveness. 5️⃣ Hostile Takeover Dynamics: CTBC's public acquisition strategy reflects a hostile merger approach. Even if it can't prevent the merger between Taishin and SKF, it will undoubtedly influence the landscape, reminiscent of WPG Holdings Limited 大聯大投資控股(股)公司's strategic investment in WT Microelectronics 文曄科技(股)公司. As the financial sector evolves, these developments will shape the future landscape of Taiwan’s economy. 🌟 Taiwan's Future: Building the "Asian Nasdaq" Over an Asset Management Center 🌟 Why should Taiwan focus on becoming an "Asian Nasdaq"? We possess the world's most robust semiconductor and AI industry, with over 200 listed companies driving this innovation. As the global demand for semiconductors and AI grows, Taiwan has become an essential player—integrating hardware and software to lead the way. We are witnessing a shift in the rapidly evolving landscape of global capital markets. Traditional hubs like Hong Kong and London face challenges while new capital markets emerge. Yet, apart from Nasdaq, there currently needs to be a market with a clear high-tech focus. Taiwan is uniquely positioned to fill this gap. With 37 years of experience in investment banking, I see enormous potential for merging foreign tech companies with Taiwanese firms, facilitating listings in Taiwan, and leveraging our capital markets to enable more M&A activities in the semiconductor and AI sectors. The vision is clear: "Nasdaq Asia" represents the future of Taiwan's capital markets. Let's seize this opportunity together! 🚀 CY Huang President at FCC Partners Asia #Taiwan #AsianNasdaq #Semiconductors #AI #InvestmentBanking #CapitalMarkets #Innovation #MergersAndAcquisitions

On November 31st, the Top 100 Taiwan Business Leaders of Harvard Business Review 2024, in its global traditional Chinese edition, were awarded. I am truly privileged to have been invited to share my insights on the theme of "New Business Opportunities for Cross-Border Layout Industry under the New Geopolitics." Here are three key points I’d like to highlight: 1️⃣ Navigating Uncertainty: We are in an era of significant change, making the economy's future unpredictable. Events like the Trump shooting and the Microsoft crisis illustrate the emergence of black swan and grey rhinoceros events, respectively. It underscores that geopolitics and climate change are the most pressing risks we must address. 2️⃣ Taiwan's Global Standing: Taiwan’s representation among the world’s top 500 companies remains low compared to China and the U.S. As AI continues to penetrate various industries, companies must pay close attention to its implications for the white-collar workforce, focusing not only on infrastructure but also on practical applications. 3️⃣ Leadership Age Gap: Notably, only 5-6% of CEOs in the U.S. are over the age of 70, while the average age of CEOs in Taiwan's top 100 companies is 69.8 years. This trend raises concerns about the leadership landscape in Taiwan and the need for a new generation of innovative leaders. 💼 I look forward to discussing these insights with fellow professionals and exploring how we can navigate the evolving business landscape together!
