The School Of St Jude

Primary and Secondary Education

The School of St Jude is a pioneering leader in charitable education within Africa.

About us

Founded in 2002, The School of St Jude started with three students and a big dream to bring the opportunity of a 100% free, quality education to children living in poverty. Today, St Jude’s is a pioneering leader in charitable education within Africa. We educate 1,800 students across a primary and two secondary campuses and achieve among the top results in the country. We support 100s of graduates through higher education and provide 10,000 Tanzanians with quality teaching each year. Here at St Jude’s we encourage Tanzanian youth to do more than just succeed – we empower them to transform their community, challenge the status quo and find solutions for the 45 million Tanzanians living in poverty. We are more than a school, but a model to overcome extreme poverty. The result speak for themselves, having seen 80% of our graduates’ families overcome extreme poverty by the time they graduate. This is just the beginning.

We have exciting news and need your help!    Our Founder, Gemma Sisia, is returning to Australia from late February to March next year. She is bringing a treasure trove of exciting news, updates, and inspiring stories from St Jude’s. And she won’t be alone, one of our incredible alumni is coming along to share their own inspiring journey with St Jude’s.     It’s been more than 20 years of St Jude’s, and we have plenty to share! But we need your help.     We are on the lookout for events, conferences, or speaking opportunities for Gemma and the alum while in Australia. Please help us spread the word to your connections: schools, Rotary Clubs, churches, community groups, and anyone who may be interested in hosting us.     Feel free to send us a DM for more information or collaboration.     Thank you very much and we are looking forward to seeing and hearing from you soon! Stay tuned for more updates.

From St Jude’s to the World! Nine of St Jude’s alumni have recently traveled to neighboring Kenya on external scholarships to begin their university studies. As part of Community Service volunteers, they spent the last year volunteering as teachers in under-resourced government schools and at various placements throughout St Jude’s. Armed with valuable practical skills and knowledge from their year of Community Service, we are confident this marks the beginning of another impactful chapter of their lives. Congratulations scholars! We wish you the very best on your journey ahead!

Kindness in Action; Saving Lives, One Drop at a Time 💙 Our secondary school students and staff at Smith Campus recently participated in a blood drive. This is our fourth and final blood drive at St Jude’s this year and will support local hospitals in replenishing their blood banks and helping patients. Kindness is one of our core values at St Jude’s and we take pride in how our staff and students embrace compassion, support, and empathy for our community. A huge congratulations to our St Jude’s staff and students for their dedication and compassion throughout this initiative. The past two weeks have been exceptionally impactful, thanks to our friends from the Kufundisha Pamoja program. Kufundisha Pamoja (which means "teaching together" in Kiswahili) is a partnership program between schools in the United States and St Jude’s in Tanzania. Through this program, teachers from both sides exchange their skills, knowledge, and experience in pedagogy by running professional development programs, team-building training, co-teaching, and more. It’s been a wonderful experience learning from each other and gaining fresh perspectives in supporting students. A big thanks to our American Friends of St Jude’s (AFSJ), teachers, and schools in the USA for supporting this program. #fightingpovertythrougheducation #schoolofstjude
