I’m pleased to host five U.S. Congressional staff members to discuss the Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA). Strengthening partnerships and boosting U.S.-Tanzanian trade is a major priority across the U.S. government.🌍 #AGOA #USinTZ

Earlier this week, the U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with BAKITA, UNESCO, and the East African Kiswahili Commission, commemorated World Kiswahili Day. For the third year running, this event highlighted the strong cultural ties between the U.S. and Tanzania through Kiswahili language and culture. U.S. diplomats in Tanzania showcased their Kiswahili language skills, while highlighting how Kiswahili language and culture has positively impacted their lives. The event also showcased American Critical Language Scholarship students, studying Kiswahili in Arusha at @MSTCDC, and U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers using Kiswahili in their everyday work alongside Tanzanian communities. It also featured Tanzanian Swahili teachers participating in the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant program, who are sponsored by the U.S. government to teach Kiswahili to American college students across the country. #WorldKiswahiliDay #CulturalExchange #usatanzania

Proud to meet with Webster University student Olivia Davis, who spent her summer in Iringa training students on transforming art and artisanal crafts into a small business. @Webster University

On July 31st, I met with the Tanzania Investment Center (TIC) Executive Director Mr. Gilead Teri, and his team. We discussed various mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities that could attract U.S. technology, capital, and partnerships. I expressed to Mr. Teri that my team and I are ready to work more closely with TIC to unlock some of these opportunities and grow our long-standing trade and investment relationship. I was also happy to hear that he’s a sports fan who has been closely following the Paris Olympics and how Team USA is performing! @INVEST TANZANIA

Last week I visited Nyarugusu refugee camp, which hosts refugees from both DRC and Burundi. We recognize Tanzania’s long-standing efforts as a host-country to refugees and asylum-seekers. I am impressed by the work that UN agencies and implementing partners are doing to ensure that the humanitarian needs of all vulnerable migrants in Tanzania are met. #WithRefugees #UNHCR #WFP #IOM

This morning I spoke at Benjamin Mkapa Legacy Summit With U.S. help, 20,000 health personnel have been deployed in 800+ facilities, and 80% have become permanent government employees! The collaboration between the United States and Tanzania has strengthened healthcare systems. I call on the private sector to step up and support Tanzania to build a stronger healthcare workforce. 💪🏽 🇹🇿 #HealthcareHeroes @USAIDTZ

More from the visit to the Refugee Camps in Tanzania. Tanzania has a long record of a generous humanitarian spirit. It is an honor to join the International Community coordinated through the UN Agencies to assist Tanzania.

It was sobering to speak with Burundian refugees in Nyarugusu camp. They have fled terrible situations, and face a great deal of uncertainty if they decide to return home. I strongly encourage the Government of Tanzania to ensure that repatriations remain voluntary, and to expand participation in the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. It was good to see the combined efforts of the international community, the UN agencies, and the government of Tanzania working together, trying to address the issues faced by refugees.#WithRefugees #InternationalCorporation #UnitedNationsAgencies #TanzanianGovernment
